Most critical period would be the dates of the US elections. There is lots of controversy going on there with respect to mail ballots/ballot harvesting etc. If the results are not overwhelming for either then it could be decided in the mail ballots. This could delay counting. Also the current supreme court justice has passed away (liberal) & apparently she had a last wish that next judge be nominated only by the new president. All these will create more problems between RW & LW there, we can expect a lot of rallies, counter rallies, fights etc. US admin would be completely engaged in this scenario. China might make a "spectacular" move during this time.

Any members from US posting here for more inputs? We need to track this, if the elections there would be a smooth affair or not this time.

No there is no guarantee about it. Mao did it to preserve 50 years worth of peace. And he was goddamn right. China went on to pursue further conflicts on with no worries regarding India border. Even after the bloody nose in 1967. Conflicts with Russia, Vietnam & Taiwan happened after that.
I am not saying that we'll get that much amount of peace but China will be pushed back as they've got bigger issues to deal with on eastern seashore.

The reason that the Russians do not want war is that they are quite certain that a large India China war will become a defining moment for India-Russia, India-US and of course India-China relations. As the say, they enemy of my enemy is my friend. That is how Pakistan and China have become allies. And in the event of war the US will play a large role by providing India with intelligence and keep China off balance with the positioning of its air force and navy. There is also the potential of the US to provoke a skirmish in the South China sea during a China-India war. While Russia will abstain and stay neutral. Depending on how bloody and extensive the conflict is this will fundamentally alter India's perception of who it's friends are. China has no other option for imported weapons other than Russia, while India which can import weapons and technology from all over the world, in the aftermath of such a war is likely to turn away from Russian weapon systems. And that is bad for the Russian arms exports business. So the ideal position for the Russians is to have this perpetual hostility between India and China but short of a shooting war. This maximizes their arms exports to both countries.

This decade is all we have left for lifting ourselves up, if we fuck up this decade, which the Chinese already know that if we get this decade they will loose the strategic big stick. That's why they thrown tantrums on article 370c, the IOK and now DS DBO.

Fact is China consider India a secondary level threat. Their main focus in on Navy & XI wants a blue water Navy like US I read somewhere for power projection. Their number of warships is increasing year after year.
Besides all the military modernization they've done is commendable. Ours is still under process. The 10 year MMS rule really pushed us back. Their MIC is in much better shape but our condition is well known on the forum.
