Look like Procurement Processes have improved in IA and MoD.

NVD for AK's , INSAS and LMG along with handheld TI seems have moved from RFI to RFP stage, as per expectations in Apr 2017..

However for Hemlet mounted NVD, we have to wait and see.

If those contracts are awarded, they fit all CGL and MMGs with the infantry and RR combined

My post on another thread....

At present, helmet mounted NVDs are issued to Special Forces. Snipers have NV scopes. Infantry are generally equipped with hand held NVDs and TIs.

The Indian Army currently uses Israel origin hand-held thermal imagers that allow the soldiers to see suspects in total darkness, through smoke and during low visibility.

Now TASL (TATA Advanced Systems Ltd) are providing a range of multifunctional (hand-held, head/helmet/weapon mounted) NVDs, which will enhance the situational awareness in the tactical battle space. Manufactured in partnership with Exelis Inc. at Noida, TASL is producing the following multifunctional devices based on Gen-3 Image Intensification Technology:
  • Night Vision Monoculars
  • Night Vision Binoculars
  • Bi-ocular Night Vision Devices
  • Aviation Night Vision Goggles
However, I haven't a clue as to how many systems have been procured for the Forces from TASL as of date.

the order was for 1.3 so it's quite big considering execlis only supplied image intensifiers and it's a repeat order as the company name would have changed if it was the first order.

So already there should be quite a bit supplied to the army I assume.

To remove night blindness from infantry we need around

2-3 lakhs NVD Helmet mounted or Hand held binoculars

Another 1-2 lakhs weapon mounted NVD sights

Last major order was in 2013 for only 31,000 NVD. Our holding is not even 5% of the requirement. NVD is just like BPJ, Helmets etc. Too cheap for Dalal lobby to promote.

of course it's in millions, Only above million dollar sale make it to this monthly list, the smaller amounts are quoted at concern departments and they are weekly.

This must be part of those small orders of 300-400 NVD for INSAS And AK coming thru. These procurements were started in the same month this thread was created.

Two more RFIs initiated for NVD

RFI for Night Sight for 7.62MM MAG 58 2A1 Medium Machine Gun (TI) - 5200 Nos.

RFI for Night Sight for 84MM Rocket Launcher (TI) - 15000 Nos.

https://indianarmy.nic.in
Above post was in April.

Night Sight for 84MM Rocket Launcher(TI) seems to have moved from RFI to RFP, small no's of 88 only though.
