Amur is a old design. A last brother of the Kilo familly. If that's the logic then smallest ssk will be better like Amur from Russia.
Like the F21 vs old F16 ....

Now you are coming close to what navy actually wants. So what is the French offering for it?Do India need SSK of such a range (18000 miles !!!)? No. for such a requirement a SSN is more accurate.
You need for P75I a bigger SSK than Scorpene, but smaller than the unsual Australian SF Barracuda.
A sub in the 2500 - 3000 max tons, with an indian AIP and some cruise missiles.
About the Attack SF BArracuda class, it was rumored than some of the last subs could be SSN (ie like the fench Barracuda or nearly). To follow...
Yup it's not latest but kilos are silent and deadly .Amur is a old design. A last brother of the Kilo familly.
Like the F21 vs old F16 ....
It was not intended to be that way but the failure to design the new propulsion and associated sub-systems have left them with using systems from the Kilo programme to solve their design flaws.Amur is a old design. A last brother of the Kilo familly.

I don't know. Now you are coming close to what navy actually wants. So what is the French offering for it?
An Scorpion with plug? A new design ?
Yes it is.Yup it's not latest but kilos are silent and deadly .
I'm not advocating it . Just pointing out that is the ideal size if coastal defense is the priority.
India wants coastal defense with just few ssk so they need to be both small with decent range.
I don't know.
Probably a streched SCORPENE with AIP.
But no one here knows exactly what are the requests of the IN.
Navy wants a sub which can fire bramhos from vls tube with aip for greater endurance.Yes it is.
But silent up to what speed ? If Improved Kilo is stealthy up to 8 knots and another modern design can do that up to 12 knots, there is a tactical advantage to have the second one.
So yes, Kilo remains a good platform. But what about in twenty years ?
All the decisions are taking late in India....Btw I would prefer more Scorpion and going for indegenios ssk directly rather than 75i. But navy hasn't ordered more Scorpion so something is missing.
In a way it is good that it allows indigenous weapons system to mature. All the decisions are taking late in India....
Just imagine IAF purchasing 126 Mirage 2000-5 twenty years ago !
Or a first Rafale purchase 10 years ago.
That means a follow one order for more Scorpene is may be in the pipe. But what pipe?
Where the hell did you get Fleet Staff Requirements from?Navy wants a sub which can fire bramhos from vls tube with aip for greater endurance.
Kilos are cheap and they are good for coastal defense in numbers. In twelve years Indian SSN will be prowling in Malacca strait and indegenios SSK will be coming out of our dockyard .
So we actually need to fullfill operational gaps till then . Kilos can do that , they will work with Scorpion and there is no real threat. Porkistan don't have a navy and Chinese have no legs in Indian Ocean.
Btw I would prefer more Scorpion and going for indegenios ssk directly rather than 75i. But navy hasn't ordered more Scorpion so something is missing.
Interesting .The P75I just might get merged with the SSN program. Mark my words.
Eh it's open knowledge that navy wants an aip and vls plug to launch bramhos from submarine.Where the hell did you get Fleet Staff Requirements from?
Because bud, you've got no idea what the IN actually wants - and what sort of priority it attaches to its various programmes.
