Afghan king at that time was trying to make it a liberal society, just like ours during that period. Mix of modernity and rural areas.

If they had stayed the course, our paths would have been similar.

There are enough videos on YouTube showcasing life in that decade.

..................................
That is pretty much the equivalent of Maharaja of Patiala's Rolls Royce in 1930s.

Few women wearing skirts is hardly the representative of country where 80-90% of population can't even write their own name.
in that case , i may say afganistan was more liberal then india that time.....coz looking at these vedios......they were not few...

I don't know how did you come to that conclusion. You have "more than a few" pics of women. Metros like Mumbai and Kolkata were quite liberal during that period. Hell, Karachi was more liberal than this.

Actual somewhat liberal Muslim cities were Arab cities like Lebanon, Tripoli, Cairo, Damascus and possibly Amman not Tehran or Kabul because they were ruled by comparatively better leaders.

Probably only Istanbul had more civil rights and liberal values than Mumbai or Goa or Kolkata.

Frankly bro, Iranians are better off with Ayatollahs then they were during Shah era. Wide spread poverty and bare minimum governance was the motto of Shah. Western educated Shah was one of the "let them eat cake" type of asshole.

Despite the fact that Ayatollahs are firmly stuck in 7th century, they have a few things to show like better education and medical system, good research programme among others. Shah only had a few pics of women in skirt.

In short, Shah was the Rahul Gandhi of his time.

No desks, but lots of students...
https://www.google.co.in/amp/www.bbc.com/news/amp/business-40250219

For me, the biggest inspiration was when I went into schools where there were no chairs, no desks, often not even teachers, but the schools were still crowded with pupils," said Mr Arman, speaking in Kabul.

"I saw families taking their children to school, even where a blast could happen at any time, with all the security problems of which we are all aware, and yet still there are nine million children at school.

"I saw the hope that the people have, the spirit of not giving up. They have lost their futures, but their children might have a future."

He was convinced that he could give these children "Not only an education but a very good education, not by others but by Afghans themselves."

then what actually happened resulting in such a downfall ?

just in the span of just 6 years....
from the coup against king jaheer shah in1973 to the intervention of USSR in 1979......eveything changed.......

Afghan War:
Communist happened. Yes most of afghanistan was still quite backward and only top cities had some upcoming liberal ethos but Communist govt in Afghanistan tried to imposed modernity on an otherwise conservative society by force .
That led to the Islam in danger notion and mujahids came at forefront.

You might not be religious per se but if govt orders you stop going to Temple you will have to revolt.

Chinese oppression today is not as brutal as Communist used to be in 70s.
Also external factors do play the role. Without USA intervention Communist might have succeeded turning afghanistan red.

Pakistan and Tajikistan were desirous of signing a transit trade agreement with Afghanistan, but the latter was hesitant and demanded inclusion of India in the agreement.
As the diplomatic row escalates, Pakistan voices fear that Afghanistan may create hurdles to prevent the use of its territory for goods transportation to member states of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) and European countries.
