That is pretty much the equivalent of Maharaja of Patiala's Rolls Royce in 1930s.It was just a few upper class women in Kabul. Hardly representative of Afghanistan as a whole.

Few women wearing skirts is hardly the representative of country where 80-90% of population can't even write their own name.
Communist happened. Yes most of afghanistan was still quite backward and only top cities had some upcoming liberal ethos but Communist govt in Afghanistan tried to imposed modernity on an otherwise conservative society by force .then what actually happened resulting in such a downfall ?
just in the span of just 6 years....
from the coup against king jaheer shah in1973 to the intervention of USSR in 1979......eveything changed.......

That led to the Islam in danger notion and mujahids came at forefront.
You might not be religious per se but if govt orders you stop going to Temple you will have to revolt.
