PESHAWAR: According to a BBCUrdu report, Ilyas Kashmiri, a Pakistani terrorist leader with ties to al Qaeda, was among those killed in the latest drone strikes in South Waziristan.

The report quoted locals as saying that Kashmiri was killed in the strike that killed at least nine militants.

Kashmiri was the chief of the Harkatul Jihad al-Islami (HJI), an organisation affiliated with al Qaeda.

He is widely believed to have masterminded the attack on the PNS Mehran naval base in Karachi.

A government official in Peshawar told BBCUrdu that although he had been receiving information regarding the death of Kashmiri in the drone strike, he could not confirm the information.

Moreover, an official in South Waziristan told BBCUrdu that a US drone attack targeted a group of armed militants 20 kilometres from Wana bazaar.

The official said the attack killed nine people and injured three others.

Moreover, the official said that those killed in the attack were believed to be militants from Punjab.

Locals and witnesses told BBCUrdu that Kashmiri had also died in the drone attack.

Witnesses said Kashmiri had arrived in South Waziristan from the Khyber tribal region

Mehran attacked proved he is no more an asset but liability now for PA. Intelligence was made readily available for drones and the target was hunted with precision.
Make sense to me?

Ilyas Kashmiri killed in drone attacks

According to reports emerging on Saturday (June 4), Pakistani terrorist leader Ilyas Kashmiri who also has ties with the Al Qaeda was among those killed in drone attacks in South Waziristan.

According to reports in the BBCurdu channel, locals were quoted saying Kashmiri was killed in the strike that killed at least nine militants. BBCurdu quoted witnesses saying that Taliban leader Ilyas Kashmiri was also killed in the attack.

The reports quoted one Pakistani government official saying that a US drone attack targeted a group of armed militants 20 kilometres from Wana bazaar. According to the official, the attack killed nine people and injured three others. The official added that those killed in the attack were believed to be militants from Punjab.

Meanwhile the Pakistani government is yet to confirm the reports.

The development comes just days after the US gave Pakistan a deadline till July to launch a military offensive in the restive North Waziristan tribal region for capturing five most wanted al-Qaeda and Taliban terrorists, including Ayman al-Zawahiri, Mullah Omar and Ilyas Kashmiri.

Pakistani security forces have been asked to capture al-Zawahiri, Omar, Kashmiri, Sirajuddin Haqqani and Atia Abdur Rehman either in a unilateral or joint military action within the deadline till July -- the month when NATO and allied forces will begin withdrawing from neighbouring Afghanistan.

Ilyas Kashmiri was the chief of the Harkatul Jihad al-Islami (HJI), an organisation affiliated with al Qaeda and he is also believed to have masterminded the attack on the PNS Mehran naval base in Karachi recently.

Has e attacked the US in any way?
Only a matter of time. A loose canon fires all over the place.

Ofcourse if US really wants they can cite the killing of six of their citizens in Mumbai as a pretext to take him out.

Time to launch a "Drones against Naxalites" initiative. Wish we had predators. Maosist would have turned believers in an instant.

Very true,

US wanted Ilyas Kashmiri because he was planning attacks against US. Saed is India's problem and there is no way US is going to go after him. To expect US to fight our wars is not going to take us anywhere.

There is no indian hand in his killing so i find it lame to celebrate his death. Moreover he was no more a asset for pakistan if he was really behind the mehran attack.

Is this a coincidence? Naval base attack and soon Kashmiri bites the dust.

Why are the most wanted militants getting killed in subsequent days?
Who provided information to CIA for this particular drone strike?
There were assets when they lived, now that they are wanted by a US court, are they better dead?

I think that if they are alive then the pakistanis must handover some names which are related to terror in INDIA and if they die then there is no need for pakistan to handover them and thus pakistan will be safe from being called a state which supports terror.

As I posted 4-5 days earlier, that out of the list of 5 that the US handed over to Pakistan, something is gotta give and someone'e gonna be taken out, and here we hear news of Kashmiri going down.

I think the PA by denying full assault on parts of Waziristan is buying time for the Haqqanis to go across the border and then start its assault.

Seems ISI is supplying intel to the US of suspected people who may be a nuisance or threat to ISI itself. Good news for India though. He surely would have planned another terrorist attack on India.

The problem with drone strike is that we cannot confirm the killing. That is why the US didn't take that risk with Osama.

It's entirely possible that the HuJI may be trying to hoodwink the US into believing that Kashmiri has been killed while he quietly slips away to "Abbotabad".
