IAF To Test BrahMos Missiles From Su-30 MKI Fighter By December

India's BrahMos supersonic cruise missile is all set for its flight test with Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets, scheduled this year end.
BrahMos Aerospace chief Sivathanu Pillai told The Times of India that the air-launched version of BrahMos, and its launchers are ready, and have been cleared for flight after simulation tests.
"Work is now underway in the Hindustan Aeronautics facility at Nasik to strengthen the Sukhoi fuselage to ensure the fighter can carry the heavy missile. After integration, we plan to test the missile from the fighter in December," he said.
Around 42 Sukhoi fighters have been earmarked for structural and software modifications by Indian Air Force (IAF) to carry the air-launched BrahMos missiles.
An unnamed official was quoted by the news agency as saying that the launcher, which weighs around 300kg to 350kg, is expected to be fitted on the aircraft's belly.
''It will take another three months to perfect the Sukhoi's software and mission computer for the BrahMos missiles,'' said an official.

In 2010, it was late 2011.
In 2011, it was late 2012.
In 2012, it was late 2013.
In 2013 it became first half of 2014.
In 2014, it became Dec 2014.
By this rate, by 2018, they would have reduced the gap to a matter of weeks Brahmos launch is like that lucrative carrot which is dangled in front of the donkey, it keeps running forward to eat it but the carrot doesn't come any closer.

BrahMos Missile Test from Sukhoi Su-30 MKI in April

When the airborne version of BrahMos supersonic missile gets flight-tested from a Sukhoi Su-30 MKI frontline fighter this year - in April, according to BrahMos chief Sudhir K Mishra - the BrahMos unit in Thiruvananthapuram will have much to cheer about. The airborne launchers for the missile are being built by BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (BATL), a subsidiary of Indo-Russian JV BrahMos Areospace Pvt Ltd (BAPL), at Chakkai. Static drop tests using a dummy missile are currently underway at BATL.

‘’The airborne launchers are the ‘interface’ between the aircraft and the missile. The static drop tests are meant to ensure that missile gets released from the fighter smoothly,’’ a top BATL official said on Tuesday. By Wednesday, BATL would have completed 30 tests on the launcher, the official said.

BAPL CEO & MD Sudhir Mishra, who was in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, told ‘Express’ that the missile would be flight-tested aboard a Su-30 fighter in April.The airborne version of BrahMos is approximately 500 kg lighter than the original design. For the trials, two Su-30 MKI had been selected and the first one was handed over to BAPL by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), entrusted with modifying the aircraft to carry the missiles, in February 2015. ‘BrahMos’ is an amalgam of the river names ‘Brahmaputra’ and ‘Moskva.’ The BrahMos unit was created in 2007 by taking over government company Keltec in 2007 for a token Rs 1.
