Predicting the future line of conspiracy theorists, Propagandists, lefties, congis:

1. Anyone who gets appointed the next CDS(specially from IAF) would be branded as someone who was involved in this... & hue&cry will be created

2. After any big military deal in near future(especially of Artillery, submarine, fighters)... theories would be woven that "maybe Rawat was against it... so he was eliminated"

In my opinion... at least for now... nobody from IAF should become CDS... Reasons: 1. You would be given enough space for 5th generation warfare(bcoz a few months ago Gen Rawat called them support arm) & 2. IAF is the force that has resisted indigenization the most... the most import-dependent force... with 500 air crashes in last 25 years... who made a joke of Tejas & somewhat of fighter procurement

A Navy guy should get it... as a reward to that service for its indigenization efforts... & one who could demand a greater budget share for his force.

The V-CDS is an IAF guy. Bypassing him would only raise more fingers on the government. There is a standard procedure for succession that was established. Gen. Rawat got picked because it was the first time and there was no precedent. However, this time, fingers will start pointing everywhere if Marshal BR Krishna gets sidelined.

IAF is guilty of scuttling domestic projects, but let's not judge this new incoming CDS.

Exactly the reason that having a IAF guy as CDS will be not in larger good. I would prefer a naval or army man ... IAF have done no good so far with their liking for phoren mall...

Dont think foul play can happen at such high levels. I have much trust in IB and RA&W guys, Even with subpar police strength in UP/MP, no terrorist incident in many years has taken place. These conspiracies would need far too many people in the loop to work.

Probably single engine failure, which prevented pilot from achieving required climb. Compounded by bad weather. This is all pure speculation, facts(or whatever version the government gives us) will be out only after the enquiry.

The Military Hospital at Wellington where late Gen Bipin Rawat was evacuated, needs to be upgraded ASAP! There are over 400 defence officers doing the one year Staff course here including officers from 22 foreign countries and yet there are few specialist facilities here.

Except for a medical specialist and a CT scan centre, there is little else by way of specialists and specialized equipment. One is sent all the way to Coimbatore or flown to the Command Hospital at Pune or MH Chennai. A person could be half-dead by the time he reaches them!!

Not just military hospital in Wellington but all Military Hospitals and ECHS Centers.
Few years ago, i went for dental filling .What i saw looked like equipments from 1960's.The filling job was so poorly done that resin broke off within 2 days.I did the same in a private clinic,it stayed for 2 years.

Many of our veterans and Ex-Servicemen no longer visit ECHS even for primary health checkup.

The V-CDS is created for a reason just like there is a vice president and there was once a deputy PM in India. These positions keep contingency plans given the risky nature of military jobs from a security perspective for senior officers.

Doubt that we follow the US system. If the vice position exists, then naturally he will take over.

It's a temporary position. CDS is like Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Committee.

So far VCDS has not been formally gazetted.
