The V-CDS is an IAF guy. Bypassing him would only raise more fingers on the government. There is a standard procedure for succession that was established. Gen. Rawat got picked because it was the first time and there was no precedent. However, this time, fingers will start pointing everywhere if Marshal BR Krishna gets sidelined.Predicting the future line of conspiracy theorists, Propagandists, lefties, congis:
1. Anyone who gets appointed the next CDS(specially from IAF) would be branded as someone who was involved in this... & hue&cry will be created
2. After any big military deal in near future(especially of Artillery, submarine, fighters)... theories would be woven that "maybe Rawat was against it... so he was eliminated"
Be prepared for above & much much more. It's just a beginning.

In my opinion... at least for now... nobody from IAF should become CDS... Reasons: 1. You would be given enough space for 5th generation warfare(bcoz a few months ago Gen Rawat called them support arm) & 2. IAF is the force that has resisted indigenization the most... the most import-dependent force... with 500 air crashes in last 25 years... who made a joke of Tejas & somewhat of fighter procurement
A Navy guy should get it... as a reward to that service for its indigenization efforts... & one who could demand a greater budget share for his force.
IAF is guilty of scuttling domestic projects, but let's not judge this new incoming CDS.
