An Hare Krishna Temple in the city of Curitiba, Paraná State, Brazil, was vandalized today. This is the first time a long of 40 years of the mission in the country that this type of violence happened.

I dont know who are the responsible for but I suspect highly that are Christians fundamentalists. Brazil is living a troublesome political scenario due to national election. The 2nd round is booked to this sunday, 28th October, and the right wing Jair Bolsonaro is the most favored to win Brazilian elections.

These Christians fundamentalists are his typical voters, and there was several episodes of violence by them against African-Black people religious communities in the last years. For this I suspect them.

I dont know what would happen if this had been in India, either the authorities either local people. But here in Brazil nothing will happens, since the Hindu community is very small to put pression in authorities.

Furthermore, many police chiefs are sympathetic to Jair Bolsonaro, so if who did this was one of his voters, they likely will neglect the case. Anyway, even if the local police chief dont be a Bolsonaro's voter, he dont can anything, since our laws forbiddes people to be jailed in the elections' previous days, except if they be catched in the act during these times.

Well, it's luck for Indians if they are near to end this wave of extremist nationalism. Because here in Brazil we are entering in this wave now. So, the next four years tends to be of religious and political intolerance against the minorities and opposition groups.

As I said, I suspect highly them. Neo-pentecostalism is a growing treat in Brazil, since we are a Catholic majority country. What happens is that an ever increasing number of young people, specially among the poor and low classes, are converting themselves to evangelical churches. These people are ignorant and believe everything their bishop says. So evangelical leaders tends to satanize people from different religious to keep their believers fearful and obedient to them. Hence, with the Bolsonaro victory, the next four years tends to be difficult for Brazilian religious minorities like Umbanda, Candomblé (African religions), Muslins, Hindu, Atheistics, Tribal religions, so on.

How many Krishna followers are there in Brazil? I don't expect any more than a few hundred. One has to be extremely petty to consider them a threat. Btw, Bolsanaro has been increasingly making the news. I did not know he was not Catholic. I heard he is gaining a lot of support from Brazilians and has pledged a lot of economic reforms.

When times are bad....people do desperate acts..... Brazilians economy is in bad shape..lot of inflation..unemployment and people are angry there...so..vandalising a Hindu temple is like a release of their anger and frustration about their falling economy....socialism has not been able to save Brazil from recession.
To some extent, there is another factor...the catholicism with its 10 commandment and rigid heirarchical controlling structure has not served and helped people' and has not brought peace and happiness....many of the latin people are looking for alternative religions for understanding and peace and Hinduism and Buddhism look attractive as these religions tends to provide much more freedom of thought and action and do not rigidly chain people into 10 rules and put their psyche in a small box.
The growing trens all over the world is disillusionment from traditional religions as they have not been effective in providing peace and happiness of mind.

Just asking . .Is Hinduism is growing in Brazil
Incident like this happens when the following of the religion increases
Hinduism isn't growing. What is growing in Brazil is the intolerance, hate culture. This in the political and religious spheres, because common violence, violence without ideological motivation, ever was high.

I dont know how many Krishna are in Brazil, but they are few. They aren't a threat. This is only a religious intolerance act by likely a Pentecostal Christian. These last are a real threat in Brazil. And after Bolsonaro's victory the tendency is things become worst. Brazilian people who vote in Bolsonaro in actually dont support them. They are only against the PT (Workers' Party). Some five or six years ago Bolsonaro was a politician like other, with a handful voters, and relatively unknow outside of his electoral basis. What is happening is the Brazilian people are tired of PT's hegemony in federal government, since they won the four last elections, but during this time they failed to promote economical growing, and yet they involved themselves in corruption scandals. People are angry and voting in a different-from-all-other politician as a hope for a better country.

Alternative religions have some attraction only for middle class, since they are educated enough to known these religions. Common people has no idea what is Hinduism, Buddhism, Islamism, Atheism, so on. At best, they hearsay from the mouth of their churches' priest. And what they hears is that those religions are a devil ones, a sin, culprit of all bad thing that occurs in Earth, so that they should be erased from Earth's surface for God's sake. The alternative religion to Catholic Church for common people is the Pentecostalism. And they attract many youngs and poor people because they promise their lives will be better if they donate their goods and properties for God, inj such way God will devolutes them in two times, the so called Theology of Prosperity.
