The Pakistan Government has decided to appoint Hina Rabbani Khar as the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has sent a formal proposal to President Asif Ali Zardari for the appointment of Khar as a full-fledged minister, ahead of the Indo-Pak Foreign Minister-level talks this month. She will be the first woman foreign minister of the country.

Gilani approved the "summary" or formal proposal for the appointment of Khar as the new Foreign Minister shortly before he leaves on a five-day private visit to Britain, official sources said.

Khar, 34, is expected to take charge as soon as a notification is issued by the presidency, sources said.

The absence of a Foreign Minister was affecting the ministry and foreign policy, government sources were quoted as saying by Dawn News channel. The July 26-27 meeting of the Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan is believed to have influenced the government's decision to go ahead with the elevation of Khar as a cabinet minister.

Khar is the daughter of veteran politician Malik Ghulam Noor Rabbani Khar and the niece of former Governor Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar.

Well I've read (as this is an old news) that she is not that respected in Indian diplomatic circles and is viewed as greenhorn, though I honestly think she cannot be much behind the dumass Krishna.

Even the reaction of Paks to this news was anger and scorn.

Well if she's already not liked in Indian diplomatic circle then I can't be optimistic.
However we'd love to invite her to India and don't worry of when she speaks, I can always watch with ear plugs on :becky:

Pakistanis are very clever. Foreign Ministers of other countries would go  after seeing her. What if Mr Krishna after meeting her comes out with a statement that Siachen and J&K has been handed over to Pakistan.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam unhappy over Hina's appointment
The political arena in Pakistan is not all joyed up with Hina Rabbani taking the post of foreign minister. Her experience and knowledge is being brought under question by stating that she's a businesswoman and doesn't have any diplomatic or political experience. Apprehensions are also there because she would be facing a perceivably seasoned expert of diplomacy and politics in S M Krishna.

Unique Request

Newly-appointed Foreign Minister of Pakistan Hina Rabbani Khar has made a special request to her Indian hosts for her upcoming visit to New Delhi next week. Khar has expressed her desire to offer prayers at the historic Jama Masjid. The Indian authorities have happily accepted the request and have already started making special security arrangements for her visit to the mosque.
