Ahmed Jabari assassinated in Israeli airstrke

Ahmed Jabari, head of Hamas' military wing, was killed Wednesday in a targeted strike by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Islamist group said an Israeli airstrike hit a car in the Gaza Strip, killing both Jabari, who ran the organization's armed wing, the Izz el-Deen Al-Qassam, and a passenger.

Israel's Shin Bet domestic intelligence service confirmed it had carried out the attack, saying it had killed Jabari because of his "decade-long terrorist activity."

IDF Spokesperson said the purpose of the strikes was to deal a heavy blow to the Hamas command and control apparatus and to the organization's terrorist infrastructure.

The incident appeared to end a 24-hour lull in cross-border violence that surged this week.

Jabari is the most senior Hamas official to be killed since Operation Cast Lead in Gaza four years ago. He has long topped Israel's most-wanted list.

Jabari, a relative of one of the founders of Hamas, Dr. Abdel Aziz Rantisi, was responsible for the attack on Kerem Shalom, when IDF soldier Gilad Shalit was kidnapped and two other soldiers killed. Jabari was in charge of negotiations during Shalit's five years in captivity.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told mayors of southern Israeli cities under rocket attack that it was his responsibility to choose the right time to "exact the heaviest price" for the continual rocket fire from Gaza.

Since the flare-up with Gaza began, Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak have promised a sharp Israeli response to the rocket fire.

During the Be'er Sheva meeting with the southern Israeli mayors, Netanyahu said that Israel is not expected to undertake significant military action in Gaza at this stage, or to renew assassinations of Gaza militants.

"I am responsible for us choosing the right time to exact the heaviest price, and so be it," Netanyahu said. "Whoever thinks that they can damage the daily lives of residents of the south, and that they won't pay a heavy price for this – they are mistaken."

one soldier abducted ,they took the revenge but india would ignore such single soldier case and in worst case stop playing cricket like small kids
India is secular and gandhian.....Indians have to pay the price for being ruled by such great filthy intellectual conniving secular / left politicians! You may call it loot of the exchequer or corruption, however it's the moral right of our secular oxford educated masters and dare you question when they plan to crown an illiterate italian waitress or her dumb italin boi to be our PM......as per a Jawan dying he is cannon fodder for our ruling elite, nothing wrong there -- we all are born to quench the lust of our kind masters!

We may get killed in broad day light and nothing should happen, as the secular ruling elite has better things to do than fighting wars, they have to amass doles and swindle them aboard to off-shores, which may get interrupted due to war or retaliation!

With almost 2 Billion people, 1 soldier is not even a drop in the bucket for India. Maybe if the terrorists will abduct or kill 1,000 soldiers then India might declare war.

I am a major propenant of raising the stakes for Pak in its terror game. But you will have to acknowledge that Hamas is not Pak Army. India has been consistently been deterred by Paki nukes. Unless india calls the bluff (I always have maintained that Pak bluffs on its low threshold thingy) we will continue to get deterred. Even after mumbai 26/11, we were reduced to sending dossiers and earning praise from the west for the restraint shown when it was actually the political leadership which got scared of the bluff thrown by Pak of its nukes.

The day India calls the bluff, Pak will be finished.

Only Narendra Modi has the balls to call Pak's bluff. If he should to power, he would ensure Pakistan pays for all its sins.
Not sure. NDA blinked after months of brinkmanship. It's the risk averse culture. Unless off courses the BJP has complete majority and it doesn't have to deal with pesky allies and Modi has a free hand.

It's not the same. Another Osama didn't come around even if we have pretenders. If leaders after leaders are killed ruthlessly, it will completely demoralize the terrorists.

If india kills Hafiz Saeed, it will be a major blow for LeT. Not every leader can have an effect like Osama had and Saeed has. I appreciate Isareli policy of eliminating terror leaders ruthlessly.

Guys stop dreaming being Israel... India is India.

The softy nature has lead to India being a pacifist country... as a result even toddlers like Maldives are taking panga.

Thanks to the govt headed by talentless idiots for whom soldiers have no value. We saw it in 1962 and then in 1999.

Unlike 1962, in 1999 a befitting reply was given.....the security & intelligence laps cannot be forgiven and guilty should be punished, be it anyone in security apparatus!! Comparing 1962 with 1999 will be a phenomenal mistake!

I have to disagree. Saying a befitting reply was not given by India is belittling the sacrifices of those who died fighting. Remember the Chinese declared ceasefire because they could not sustain the war. If the war had dragged a bit longer, they would have been given a severe drubbing.

And yes the most important similarity between 62 and 99 was that Indian leaders at both times were living under the delusion of peace and giving their counterparts hugs and calling Bhai Bhai and shyt.
