A joint venture of the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Rolls-Royce of Britain, International Aerospace Manufacturing Ltd (IAML) unveiled its production facility here on Friday.

Set up with an investment of Rs.135 crore ($25 million), the 50:50 venture will produce components for the Trent family of aero engines and compressor parts for marine and energy gas turbines.

"The production facility incorporates the latest manufacturing techniques of Rolls-Royce and has created jobs for about 100 Indian engineers," HAL managing director K. Naresh Babu said on the occasion.

The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with modern machine tools, computerised maintenance management systems, metal spray booths and non-destructive testing lines.

"The venture will help in indigenising production of aero engines and developing a robust supply chain management system to nurture 225 small and medium enterprises as vendors," HAL chairman R.K. Tyagi said.

The facility will commence production of aero-engine components and 130 different compressor parts for gas turbines later this year.

"The venture is a testimony to our five decades old partnership with HAL and our commitment to develop the Indian aerospace industry," Rolls-Royce India president Kishore Jayaraman said.
