Dude , it looks like they took the heli out in the middle of the assembly line , i am sure they are gonna do more assembly on site, they just can't leave it like that

Dr. Prasad sampat, HAL said these things bout the LCH at an Aero India seminar....


1. LCH was conceived based on ASR created after the Kargil investigations.

2. TD 1 flight displays in AE 2011. TD 2 will be static display. TD 3 will join in Feb 2012.


3. 350 kg weight reduction done successfully on TD1.



4.Features of LCH---

* Push pull cable used instead of rod for lower weight and higher safety for the craft.

* Cockpit and HM interface developed with extensive input from users from early stage.

*LCH more stable than ALH.

*Directional solidified blades.

* IR suppresor.

* Facetting for RCS reduction.

* Smart materials for vibration suppression and health monitoring.

* EW and UV based MAWS being developed. (Different source)



5.SPECS

MTOW- 6500kg.
V NE- 330 kmph; V H- 275 kmph.
Rate of climb- 12 m/s
Max. Altitude- 6500m
Range- 570 km on int fuel,
750 km with aux fuel.


6. Modifications on TD1

* End plates removed- For weight reduction as the extra vertical stabilisation was not needed.

* Both tail and nose landing gear fairings.

* Armament boom modified by giving it an aerofoil cross section.

*Optimised cowling scoops.



Future Plans.

1. Developing and testing local full glass cockpit, IADS, AFCS, Hydraulic actuators (some already developed.)

2.LUH- It is at metal cutting stage!

3. IMRH- Indian Multi role Helicopter--- Wlii start in 2011/early 2012.

Looks like its going to be only static display of LCH 2nd prototype.
manc even the euro-copter was assembled on the ground in Aero India! So lets wait for them to do their stuff. The LCH is going on lightning speed for DRDO standards!

Also Camos are not meant to be eye pleasing, its meant to be deceptious. Who know if the mind will miss it if its too ugly! :D

It will be static GK. Confirmed by Livefist.

Its not as ugly as i previously thought. Still could have painted something cool like darth vader :D

Exactly. LCH is supposed to be operational by 2013 & it only had its first flight last year. HAL is working on this really fast. Also look at the capability the LCH will bring to the fore. So much in such short period of time, if achieved, will definitely be a remarkable accomplishment for the HAL. It seems atleast in the Heli department HAL has acquired enough expertise to take on even bigger projects in the future. Wish i could say the same about the DRDO as well.

NAG - For Mechanised Infanry with 4km range, LOAL – fully autonomous after launch
Helina – Use existing technogy on Nag with some additional LRU's (radio link or fiber optic link)and increase range to reduce development cycle time and achieve immediate time compatibility with LCH. Parallel effort develop an indigenous high-rez seeker with 7+km stand-off range.

Making Nag compatible for 7.5Km range:
Improve propulsion – either sustainer or booster
Guidance aid – with current seeker not possible to see beyond 3km, so we need a guidance aid. So decided on a two-way, secure,jam-proof RF datalink. Command & guidance upwards, video & health monitoring downwards,

LOAL scheme using RF link:
1.WSO acquires target through EOp
2. Align Helo to the required Azimuth & put the TAS in auto-tracker mode; LRF fired to get target ranging, seeker slaved to TAS
3. Based on range determined from LRF, the onboard computer decides the trajectory – top-attack or flat trajectory (WSO has the authority to override if required)
4. WSO places a target-gate and fires the missile
5. Missile maintains a course +/-1deg in azimuth while the seeker maintains a FOV of 3deg (to be later reduced to 2deg). As the missile closes in the pilot gets a clear video of the target through downlink.
6. Based on the video feed he gets, WSO can adjust the target-gate to give mid-course guidance.
7. The WSO can guide the missile all the way through OR choose to put it in "LOCK" mode and let the auto-guidance take over

The auto-jam features of the RF-link and the resolution of the video play a major role. Only these two are developed for HELINA, everything else is same as in NAG.

FCS provides interface with the Helicopter through launcher interface unit (LIU). 4 launchers with 4 launcher interface units each capable of controlling 2missiles = 8 HELINA max possible for each LCH. Each launcher is autonomous by itself. There is one RF-data transmission system on each side of the helicopter. Each LIU has its own cooling system with a time of 2hrs for 2missiles (as per the sortie time specified by the user)

Launcher has to be isolated from the vibration of the Helicopter frame. Within the required weight limits the launcher has been developed and captive flight tested – no worries on this part.

After the sortie only the two missiles (within their tubes) per launcher have to be changed. The launcher need not be changed. It will take only 2mins to change the two missiles housed in the tubes.

Has multi-carrier CDMA & multi-code CDMA to make sure the command guidance of two Helo's flying together (300m apart and so on) doesn't get mixed up (this was in response to a question).

Tandem warhead able to defeat 800mm thick (ERA) armour - great success with NAG.

Future growth potential:
Non-LOS targets
Weaponization of UAV's for BVR targets

That digital camo looks like pigeon droppings. At some panels, black& white markings on khaki are overcrowded whereas at certain panels they are placed wide apart.

That would throw the LCH way out of weight. Besides, I think those are the limitations of the Israeli AFCS on board the Dhruv, the same as that on the LCH. Technical Fault Forces Light Combat Helicopter to Shorten Flight at Aero India 2011


A technical fault forced the home-grown Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) to cut short its flying display at Aero India 2011 at Yelahanka Air Force base here today.

An official of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited which built the prototype of LCH, said during a flight, the pilot observed "a kind of noise" and brought down the helicopter as a precautionary measure.

"It will be studied and data will be analysed tomorrow," the HAL official said, adding, "We are hopeful that LCH will resume flights day after tomorrow."

LCH was slated to perform short flights on all five days of the air show.
