JUST IN: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has received Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) for its Light Utility Helicopter (LUH).
Now who in the world can logically explain the need for 200 KA-225s over equal number of LUHs?
KA-225 was supposed to be a stop gap till HAL-LUH arrives. Now HAL-LUH has arrived. So why not convert LUH requirement into no KA-225 but only HAL-LUH(better be given a proper name) deal?

Ka-226 to start coming in from 2025 only. But it can carry twice the load of LUH & has modular body... Except LUH can operate higher.

Any other govt. & they'd have rejected LUH altogether. We should copy the coaxial rotor tech from it.

You do realise luh has different design philosophy from ka226! We could have built luh with twin engine and more payload at the cost of high altitude performance and maintenance!!

Learn the difference.

Which is why we have separate need & niche for both. Do read what I was replying to & understand the context.

You said previously that luh is 'inferior ' and no other govt will buy it.

Both statement are devoid of logic. Luh does perfectly what it was supposed to do.

Yeah, my wording does make it sound like that. What i meant was any other govt other than Modi's (looking at you Cutmoney-gress) would find a way to not buy it & get only Ka-226... on those grounds. :nono:
Because he was saying why were buying both instead of only LUH.

Off topic , I never comment on such issues but this is necessary.

I would sincerely request people to boycott bollytard Shikara and also request their family / friends etc to boycott the movie.

This bollytard brand of sickularism must be destroyed .

It has become too pathetic and obnoxious
Feeding on the miseries on Hindus killed raped and hounded out by Islamists bastards.

Did not HAL-LUH got IOC? Which in other words means LUH ticking all the check boxes of ASQR & GSQR. Have someone heard of any waivers? Anyone?

Speaking of payload. LUH has been specifically designed to meet high altitude requirement to replace HAL Cheetah. And not to compete with specifications of KA-225. So whatever it lifts to rarefied helipads fulfills the specified requirement. For heavier loads at lower altitudes there are other helicopters namely HAL-Dhruv and MI-17s.

Despite that with necessary changes in transmission and Rotors, the same airframe of HAL-LUH can be optimised for better payload at low level. For which HAL has made its plans for meeting Navy's requirement. But that's for future.

Furthermore We do not need to copy either Coaxial Rotors or Ducted Tail Rotors called Fantail. The present designs are mature and meeting the requirements squarely.

Light Utility Helicopter gets operational clearance

BENGALURU: The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has received the Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) for its Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) paving the way for the helicopter’s production.

R Madhavan, Chairman & Managing Director, HAL, received the IOC document from G Sateesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence R & D and Chairman, Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) at the ‘Bandhan’ programme held at ongoing DefExpo 2020 on Friday in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Arup Chatterjee, Director, Engineering & R&D, HAL, said the performance of basic configuration of LUH in all terrains and under all-weather conditions is satisfactory and HAL is moving towards the next phase of integrating and flight testing of Mission & Role Equipment on LUH.

LUH is a single engine, light weight, highly agile 3-tonne utility helicopter, indigenously designed and developed to meet the operational requirements of Indian Army and Indian Air Force. LUH will soon replace the ageing fleet of Cheetah and Chetak helicopters.

Three prototypes have been built and the chopper has cumulatively completed over 550 flights under various terrains and climatic conditions like cold weather, hot weather, sea-level and high altitude, complying to stringent certification and user requirements.

Its endurance and reliability were established during the hot weather and high-altitude trials where in LUH was ferried from Bengaluru, covering over 7,000 km of distance and continuously flying for 17 days without any abnormalities.

Wrong, wrong totally wrong. I challenge any tiger fan to put biggest tiger against any lion species and lion will stand taller than any tiger.
Tigers are naturally afraid of Asiatic lions and abandon their own territory at the hint of lion in neraby jungles.
This is a thread about HAP LUH. Keep all discussion on that only.

LCH will... Heard that insect was supposed to get FOC in Defexpo 20 too. Could you dig up anything?

Surprisingly sparse presence of aircrafts in this defexpo, don't you think?
Weird! Maybe some snag happened. It was there is during rehersals to accompany the LUH but during the show LUH flew alone.

Wrong! Everything is the same capability, payload, engine power. The only difference is co-axial rotos and twin engine. In no other way 226 is better than LUH aside from added safety owing to twin engine.

Yes, I may have been wrong.

Wiki says, twin engined coaxial rotor Ka-226 can lift 1050kg internally or 1100 kg on an external sling... LUH can lift it is capable of carrying cargoes of up to 1ton underslung & has almost 500m higher service ceiling.

In which case: WTF MODI GOVT!?..

PS. Although LUH should definitely copy this from Ka-226;
