Does anyone know what will happen to Dhruv? Does it also fall under 'Light Utility Helicopter' category? And we are also buying Ka 226. Will all these 3 helicopters co-exist or are we going to scrap Dhruv?
Dhruv is almost on the threshold of light and medium weight category chopper.

Guys LUH isn’t the replacement for ALH ffs!

Look at the AUW of ALH vs LUH and the payload capacities. ALH has 70-80% more payload capacity than the LUH and a longer endurance.

LUH is for replacing the Chetaks and Cheetahs, ALH numbers have absolutely zero to do with LUH, they will be produced simultaneously

ALH is effectively India’s Blackhawk (close enough) and the LUH is like their BELL 407s (OH-58)

LUH primary purpose is to replace HAL Cheetal helicopters which operate 23,000 feet and has a range of 346 nm with an endurance of three and a half hours, single-engine Cheetal helicopters, which can barely lift 20 kilos of payload to Siachen Glacier posts like Sonam, which, at 20,997 feet, is the highest inhabited spot on the planet.

The army wanted the LUH to lift 200 kilos to Sonam, But it can deliver 400 kilos, It surely can do more in low altitudes and warm areas.

================

KA-226 can carry bulldozers under slung and meant for such roles which BRO needed.
20 Kg to 400 Kg is a big leap. You can carry 3,4 people or a good amount of ration for that weight.

Hey do you think in War With Pakistan Dhruv and Rudra Would be like Our Own Huey and Black Hawk that the US used in Vietnam and 1st and 2nd Gulf, Iraq and Afghan Wars.
Pretty much Dhruv is a pretty decent helicopter which have proved it's worth. We also have MI - 17s for troops transportations. LUH & LCH will be used to go on the altitudes were normal helicopters cannot fly.
Light combat helicopter. Is one fine product to. IAF should place it's order fast. It's armed with decent guns and can be used efficiently in conflicts like kargil. Because heavy aircraft like apache cannot fly at altitude were LCH can fly.

For The LCH They Should Replace that 20mm Gun with a 30mm or 40mm Gun like GIAT-30 or Russian Shipanov or A Indigenous Indian 30 or 40mm. Nobody Uses 20s Anymore for Ground Attacks Especially if it’s a Auto Cannon. I think We should also Integrate the Anti-Tank Missiles Such Hellfire or AT-9 along HELINA Missile. These Missiles are Produced by India Especially AT-9 but i don’t if Hellfires are made in India. I think We Should also Add More Hardpoints for Air to Air Missiles as well on the LCH.

HAL's LUH Completes Communication Range Checks: The indigenous V/UHF comms system ACS 235 Mk2 has been integrated on LUH PT-2. The communication range checks were successfully carried out in Sep 2019 by a composite team from SLRDC, RWR&DC and Flight Ops

LUH Completes Comms Range Checks: Two way communication was established between LUH PT-2 and Ground Station set up at new helicopter factory Tumakuru and a range of around 240 km at 6 km altitude obtained. It is also planned to complete range exercise on LCH shortly.

HAL’s Light Utility Helicopter ready

Unperturbed by the tremors within and outside Indian desi military aviation company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is ready with its three ton class Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and eagerly waiting for the orders from its clients Indian Defence forces.

A senior executive on the condition anonymity told The Pioneer that the company is wholly depending on Indian Defence forces for the orders on LUH. He said “ We are confident that Indian Defence forces will certainly buy this three ton class very agile LUH to replace its ageing choppers like Cheetah and Chetak. We are surely depending on more orders for Tejus and LUH from the Defence Ministry. This is a make in India product and will be produced in Tumukur factory near Bengaluru.”

He said the LUH would be used for Reconnaissance & Surveillance, reconnaissance, Aerial Photography, Airborne Forward Air Controller, Casualty Evacuation and to provide assistance in emergency to civil authorities etc.,

Light Utilty Helicopter (LUH) indigenously built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is 3-ton class helicopter with 4 Bladed Composite Main Rotor System, Main Rotor Blade Folding, 4 Bladed Tail Rotor System, Single Engine with dual channel automatic fuel control (FADEC) with additional backup control, Night Flying Capability, Glass Cockpit with Smart Cockpit Display Systems (SCDS), Skid Landing Gear, Fuselage to accommodate 2 pilots in side by side configuration and 6 passengers and Crashworthy Crew Seats.

According to available information thr Indian Army and Indian Air Force together are operating about 400 Cheetah (France Design Alouette III helicopter) and Chetak (France Design LAMA helicopter ) helicopters supplied by HAL ( Licence produced at HAL, Bengaluru) starting from 1960s. These helicopter fleet have served the country for nearly four decades, need to be replaced in a phased manner with a more efficient and state-of- the- art technology based helicopter.

It is in this backdrop, the Indian Army and Indian Air Force finalised the requirement of a Reconnaissance and Surveillance Helicopter (to replace Cheetah and Chetak helicopter) and issued a GSQR in the year 2008. The total projected quantity required by Armed Forces is 384 helicopters, of which, 197 helicopters are earmarked for direct global purchase and remaining 187 helicopters are classified under make category, to be indigenously manufactured by HAL based on Design and Development of Light Utility Helicopter (LUH).

The GOI accorded approval to HAL, in February 2009 to go-ahead with design and development of Light Utility Helicopter. The time given to HAL was 6 years, including a buffer of one year to accommodate delays in Design and Development.

“We have done everything possible to meet the expectations of the Indian armed forces matching with global standards. LUH is being designed to provide excellent performance at high altitude operations.

These features make LUH to stand out in comparison to other contemporary helicopter in its class. The USP of LUH designed by HAL is its capability to hover at 6 km altitude (Hover performance) with considerable payload”, he added.

I came across something on the internet called HAL Light Observation Helicopter.. model displayed as recently as in Aero India 2009 & kept at HAL museum.
Pretty sleek design, with what looks like armored-glasses like the Lancer light attack helicopter.
View attachment 38834 View attachment 38835So is this dead or merged to the LUH concept?
They were same actually. This will perform both utility and observation role .
