Could this have been avoided if IAF was involved in the design, production and testing phases of Dhruv ?
Hands off attitude of forces wrt to domestic manufactured equipment is also a small factor I feel.
For ex:- Even now Prachand has not been qualified with ATGM, IA/IAF till now have not worked with HAL to identify which ATGM they want and work on integrating the same on Prachand. (If they have started now or a year back, its good, but too much delayed, should have done long long back to identify teething issues quicker)

After string of accidents, metallurgy flaws identified in ALH Dhruv helicopters: Report

Metallurgy issues have been found in the Indian Advanced Light Helicopter after a safety audit, leading to the grounding of the fleet.

Some metallurgy and design issues have been identified in the indigenously developed Advanced Light Helicopter after detailed scrutiny of the choppers, said people familiar with the matter on Wednesday, adding that the flaws are being fixed.

The scrutiny came after a string of accidents involving the platform that had forced the Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF) to ground their fleets, according to a report published by the news agency PTI.

They also informed the choppers that were grounded to resume their operations following the completion of the safety audit.

The Indian Navy, the IAF, the Army and the Coast Guard have a total of over 325 ALH Dhruv helicopters and all of them underwent technical checks following the incidents of accidents, they said.

The ALH Dhruv helicopters are designed and developed by state-run aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The ALH Dhruv is a twin engine, multi-role, multi-mission helicopter in the 5.5 tonne weight class.

In 2002, the certification of the utility military variant was
completed and that of the civil variant was completed in 2004. The deliveries of production series helicopters commenced from 2001-02 onwards.

The Indian Army temporarily suspended the operations of ALH Dhruv choppers in May this year. The choppers had been grounded for more than a month after two accidents involving helicopters of the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard.

The crashed ALH Dhruv helicopter was on an operational mission in the Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Army aviation Corps' helicopter made a precautionary landing on the banks of the Marua river in the Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir due to a technical glitch, said Indian Army's Northern Command HQ in its statement.

Two pilots and a technician were on board and suffered injuries due to the emergency landing. All three of them have been safely evacuated and are undergoing treatment at Command Hospital, Udhampur.

Navy does this, don't see them bitching about ships, neither do i see any ships sinking or having any other issues :troll:

It's almost as in it is very beneficial to let some lazy and incompetent sarkari karamcharis do stuff according to your vague specs which you conviniently change everytime, for procurement to drag on, so when the next Paki or Chini adventure happens you can force GoI to do "emergency procurements" and get those kick back moneys.

It's almost as if taking spec and design responsibility yourself as the "user" organization from the, or in close cooperation with aforementioned sarkari karamcharis would be counterproductive when the current model works just fine. :rage:

Can HAL Dhruv perform anti-submarine patrol missions? Also, is there a variation that can perform anti-submarine patrols?

HTSE 1200 may get operational next year. Putting HTSE 1200 in ALH will boost the power. We can use this additional power to put more payload or more fuel to boost the capabilities of Chopper to either get Higher range, higher altitude or Higher payload to boost its operational envelope. We need sophisticated missiles and top class electronics to boost its capabilities. We can develop electronics in joint venture with Israel if needed. Development with France will prove to be very costly. We can put more sophisticated Dhruvastra on it or use Israeli or US missile if mission so required. Full exploitation of this platform is need of Hour. What weapons do we have which can be mounted on this platform for anti submarine role?

HTSE 1200 shall need conservatively 3-4 years more for development , tests. And if all goes well. then few more years for certification.

Ig few land based tests were remaining and it has not been integrated with alh itself
Then trails then certification then upgrades
Way more than 4 years
But the concerning party is no update since 1-1.5 years
