Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi stormed out of an Arab summit on Monday after denouncing the Saudi king for his long ties to the West.

Gadhafi disrupted the opening Arab League session in Qatar by taking a microphone and criticizing Saudi's King Abdullah, calling him a "British product and American ally."

Gadhafi has harbored a grudge against Abdullah since exchanging harsh words during a summit in early 2003 shortly before the US-led invasion of Iraq.

"Now after six years, it has proved that you were the liar," Gadhafi said, adding that he now considered their "problem" over and was ready to reconcile.

But when the emir of Qatar tried to quiet Gadhafi, the Libyan leader insisted on speaking to the summit.

"I am an international leader, the dean of the Arab rulers, the king of kings of Africa and the imam (leader) of Muslims and my international status does not allow me to descend to a lower level," Gadhafi said before getting up and walking out of the hall.

DOHA, Qatar -- Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gadhafi stormed out of an Arab summit on Monday after denouncing the Saudi king for his long ties to the West.

Meanwhile, the U.N. Secretary General came face to face with Sudan's president for the first time since the International Criminal Court ordered his arrest on March 4.

Col. Gadhafi disrupted the opening Arab League session in Qatar by taking a microphone and criticizing Saudi's King Abdullah, calling him a "British product and American ally."

Col. Gadhafi has harbored a grudge against King Abdullah since exchanging harsh words during a summit in early 2003 shortly before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

"Now after six years, it has proved that you were the liar," Col. Gadhafi said, adding that he now considered their "problem" over and was ready to reconcile. But when the emir of Qatar tried to quiet Col. Gadhafi, the Libyan leader insisted on speaking to the summit.

"I am an international leader, the dean of the Arab rulers, the king of kings of Africa and the imam (leader) of Muslims and my international status does not allow me to descend to a lower level," Col. Gadhafi said before getting up and walking out of the hall. A Libyan delegate said Col. Gadhafi went to the Islamic museum in Doha for a tour.

The Libyan leader is known for his unpredictable behavior and it isn't clear whether he will rejoin the two-day summit.

Col. Gadhafi has angered other Arab leaders with his sharp remarks at past summits. Last year, he poured contempt on fellow Arab leaders at a summit in Syria and warned that they might be overthrown like former Iraqi president, Saddam Hussein.

He boycotted the 2007 summit in Saudi Arabia but gave a televised speech saying "Liza" -- referring to former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice -- had dictated the gathering's agenda.

In 2005, he told the summit in Algeria that Palestinians and Israelis are "stupid." A year earlier, he sat smoking cigars on the conference floor of the Tunisia summit to show his contempt for the other leaders.

Separately, Sudan's president, who is charged by an international court for war crimes, has lashed out at the U.N. Security Council and accused it of corruption.

Speaking at the summit in Qatar, Omar al-Bashir criticized the Security Council for asking the International Criminal Court to launch an investigation into war crimes in Darfur. On March 4, the court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Bashir.

Earlier, U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon criticized Sudan for expelling aid agencies from Darfur. Monday is the first time Messrs. Bashir and Ban have come face-to-face since his arrest order.

The ICC is independent from the U.N. But the Security Council -- as it did with Darfur -- can ask the court to launch an investigation into alleged war crimes.

Its more than just that.king Abdullah had previously cut down Qaddafi to size and Qaddafi,who had excellent working relationship with the late king Fahd of Saudi Arabia,had taken a strong disliking to Abdullah,who was the crown prince then.There are credible reports that Qaddafi did plan to have crown prince Abdullah assassinated (abdullah himself made this accusation) because Abdullah had apparently supported anti Qaddafi faction in Tripoli.

Qaddafi is a bit of Arab old school and believes in the traditional Arab aristocratic hierarchy.with Sadat long gone and after the demise of senior Assad of Syria and King Hussein of Jordan,only he and Saddam where the leaders left from the days of pan Arabism fervor.The execution of Saddam leaves only Qaddafi as the sole heir to that pan-Arab leadership(or that's what Qaddafi liked to think)

However King Abdullah's active diplomacy on the middle east front and the loss of a strong supporter in the form of baathist Iraq,has put paid to all of Qaddafi's dreams. hence all the frustration.It is also reasonable to believe that Abdullah played a key role in forcing Qaddafi to abandon his nuclear and chemical weapons programme(which happened soon after Baghdad fell and Libya was left with no friend)

Saudi Arabia could never have tolerated an Arab nation other than itself with such a powerful weapon.It never will(there are different internal pan Arab dynamics at play)

Qaddafi and king Abdullah are far from reconciled.
