FRCV is nothing but armata in future. I do not think indian army is in a hurry. Upgrading T 90 is more than enough to deal with all threat's we face.

FRCV was conceived around 2017 and planned to be inducted beginning by 2025-27. It was an ill-conceived idea, IA wanted global tank manufacturers has been with their own design and then transfer the design IP rights to IA. There was no mention, whether the design would have to be old, new or futuristic. Neither any crew arrangement, no. of crew, gun caliber, remote controlled turret etc . were mentioned in the RFI. Only weight requirement was stipulated to be 50 tons +- 15%, which puts it between 42.5-57.5 tons.
The Russians and the Koreans have informally offered their export (downgraded) versions of Armata and K2, respectively to the MOD.

Current status of FRCV is that it has been put to back burner. Present focus is upgrading some T-72s and the whole T-90 fleet.

In the indigenous front, Arjun MK1A has been awaiting order after successfully clearing trials, while DRDO is developing Arjun mk2 (with turret and hull redesigned) as well as NGMBT.

Hmm, what's the difference between FRCV and NGMBT?
Also, Arjun mk2 was shown in the defence expo of 2016 and 2018, iirc, actively performing, I don't about their status though, also, didn't they change the naming scheme of mk2 to mk1a or some shiet?

This thing completely matches indian army RFI requirements from weight to active passive protection to low turret profile along with stealth features + 360° view for commander etc. Crew protection is probably highest ever. even if russian sell watered down version it will still be better than most tanks in world. we surely need to look for these.

It'd almost appear that the army deliberately formed its GSQR for the FRCV matching the specs of the Armata.

FRCV is the army designation for its future tank, which it intends to replace the current in service T-72. It also emcopasses a series of vehicle apart from just the tank. It's concept is similar to the Russian Armata series or US FCS and GCV programme (which was cancelled).
NGMBT is the DRDO designation for its future main battle tank. It is an ongoing project for quite a while. In principle, DRDO intends to pitch this NGMBT(once developed) if army moves ahead with FRCV project.
Arjun mbt mk1a has cleared all trials and waiting orders. Until 2016-17, this was known as Arjun mk2.
In 2016-17, the army directorate of mechanized forces met DRDO and MOD officials. In the meeting, it was decided that the hull and turret structures would be redesigned to bring a weight reduction of 3 tons to about 65 tons. Unconfirmed sources also suggest the inclusion of 120 mm smoothbore gun, and the design consultancy help was sought from the Israeli experts. This Arjun derivative tank was named Arjun mk2. The re-design was done, and prototype structures were outsourced to reliance defence ( who won this contract as part of a competitive bidding). As of September 2018, Reliance defence has delivered those to cvrde, the final integration to be done on hvf, avadhi.

Thank you so much for clearing that up senpai. Also, there was this video of Arjun mk2 at DEF-EXPO 2018,
Does that mean integration etc has been done, trials are going on? or trials are done too just waiting for the orders? Considering it was 2018, it should have completed all the trials by now.

This tin can won't be inducted because it's a tin can.

You are most welcome.

Originally the Arjun mk1A was started in 2010-11 and it supposed to incorporate 93 improvements as suggested by Army after the comparative trials of 2007-08 against the T-90. It was decided that most of the alterations would not entail major structural design changes to the bare hull and turret. From 2012 onwards, on a mk1 prototype these improvements were started to be tested (in batches) such that by 2014, most of the improvements were tested ( barring the missile firing) and the final prototype design was unveiled in 2014 Defence expo. After that it has been showcased in Republic Day 2015, Defence expo 2016,2018 and 2020.

The Army since 2014 has been insisting that msiisle firing be proven first, then they will order. CVRDE wanted to start production by 2015-16 itself.

Originally, MK1A was supposed to have LAGAT, but army did not approve it since it failed to hit its target minimum engagement range of 500 m. As a result, DRDO started CLGM project. The CLGM was recently tested in September 2020.

Goes on to show you know nothing about tanks. If you call this a tin can, surely the al khalid is a Cheerios card board box
why don't you tell me it's imaginary capabilities for a 8 million USD disaster that it is.

Look like a systematic plan to get india away from russian equipment. To bad this tin can to will go against a foreign competitor , let's see if it survive.

They should have gone for this type of upgrade for Arjun instead.

To put things into perspective, the US army spent 1 billion usd for just the turret stabilization system/software for the M1 Abrams. Just the turret stabilization. That contract was awarded to BAE systems and look at the results. A BILLION dollars for a single subsystem. That much money invested into the Arjun project is just a dream for drdo.

What the mk2 offers is very potent firepower along with night/thermal vision and very good speeds for the money invested. It’ more than adequate to take on the western front ’especially’ over the desert. These tanks were specifically designed to operate over the desert to disable and attack pakistani armored columns.

The more
Money invested in these programs, the better results that can be shown.
