The Indian military is expected to be reorganised under five theatre commands by 2022 with defined areas of operation and a seamless command structure for synchronised operations.
With the department of military affairs soon to have additional and joint secretaries after Cabinet clearance, the task of reorganisation of the three services under theatre commands has begun with a China specific Northern Command and Pakistan specific Western command under serious consideration. India’s Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat has been given the mandate by the Narendra Modi government to create theatre commands much like the ones China and the US currently have.According to military and national security planners, the northern command’s remit will begin from the Karakoram Pass in Ladakh and continue up to the last outpost Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh , with the military mandate of guarding the 3,488 kilometre of Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. The HQ of this command could be Lucknow.
The western command’s remit will be from Indira Col on Saltoro Ridge in the Siachen Glacier region to the tip of Gujarat with its HQ likely in Jaipur.

The third theatre command will be the Peninsular Command; the fourth, a full-fledged air defence command; and the fifth, a maritime command. The likely HQ of the Peninsular command could be Thiruvananthapuram. The air defence command will not only spearhead the country’s aerial attack but also be responsible for defending Indian airspace through multi-role fighters with all anti aircraft missiles under its control.

Currently, the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy all defend Indian airspace on separate communication frequencies and without synergy. This is despite the fact that all Indian Army Corps Headquarters are located next to an air base as a result of which there is duplication of effort and wasteful expenditure.

Just my 2 paisa.

Discussion of a SOCOM should be outside a 'land Forces' thread. Because my view is that they are a Genre of their own.
Created a new thread dedicated for that subject.

Currently there are no plans to raise a separate marine corps in this decade at least. However, army currently has just 1 brigate (54th) for dedictaed amphibious operation. At most Army can raise 2 more brigades to turn it into a complete amphibious divison. Navy on the other hand, is focussed on getting the approval of 3rd aircraft carrier. So navy is also not interested at the moment for marine corps. Marine Corps as a separate branch of armed forces, requires visionary thinking in GOI, which they lack.

Also, there is no plan to remove BSF from border patrolling Indo-Bangaldeshi border and raising a separate force.

I really hope even if it's a small force Indian Navy has a dedicated amphibious force.
About BSF, I think its better if GOI implement a dedicated border force for Bangladesh.

We do need to consider Bangladesh border seriously.. recent Incidents haven't been too kind and encouraging. By not expanding the chicken neck we have already axed ourselves in last 50 years and the illegal Kangladeshis have flooded and destroyed the peace and progress of nation. They are a serious threat.

If you vote for me in the next election I will promise you, I'll change the whole security ecosystem of this country!!!!!! Its no joke that a team of terrorists invaded our country during 26/11 caused damage to our national security and still we have not implemented a dedicated Central Marine Police Force to counter that job from happening again. Same goes with kangladeshis now with CAA and NRC god be with us... Hence the reason why we need dedicated border force to keep an eye over that sinking shithole!! Oh yeah bangladesh is sinking, how if that happens the first country they head to is India!!

Although the infiltrant population in that area needs to be checked, chicken neck threat theory is farce in itself. In case of any non-state or state sponsored attempt to block, India's ground expeditionary capabilities are far more than sufficient to make a way from inside Bangladesh itself in any such case.

Besides Himalayas and geopolitical pressure, even Pakistan is more or less same. That's why they applied such a suicidal doctrine.

We had the golden chance of expanding the land there and end it for all.

May be today we can manage to get past Bangladesh if need arise but not always.. They will be second pakistan in coming decades.

Pakistan is increasingly turning into another Sri Lanka in terms of relevance.

Bangladesh doesn't even have geopolitical advantages like foreign support or weapons or geographical safety of mountains, what Pak had.
For being a threat what Pak used to be yet, they would need be somewhat economically and industrially capable.

With textiles entirely in name of industry, not having even low end tech manufacturing, zero investment in R&D, plain grounds and an aging population, no military experience and weapon systems, neither their economic growth will be sustained nor Bangladesh can ever be even a bother like Pakistan used to be.

If India will have new future threats, they will come from Southeast Asia.

Finsas is bifuracted by the Army into two separate programmes.
One programme will concentrate on BPJ and protective clothing
Second programme will concentrate on Communications systems.

The weapons programme of FINSAS which was supposed to MCIWS is completely discrarded and rifles and carbine are/will be procured separately.
