Another question which is running in media circle is is it because of Dr Kalams name and religion this action is being taken if so its adds to insult to a national hero plus i wonder where the security of Dr Kalam was ?

Maybe it was sponsored. We don't know what the trip was all about.
May be Air India didn't have a flights or seats available on that day.
Lets not speculate on that.
We are deviating from the topic.

You gotta hit hard where it hurts the most. Suspend their license
for couple of months and Continental Airlines and others like them will fall into track.

The question/argument is not about," Lets frisk Hillary".

If they can respect their heads of state then they ought to respect other heads of state too. If tomorrow Ex-president Mr. Clinton arrives in India, are we going to frisk him. The answer is we won't.

So, they need to give some respect and take some.

It's shocking to learn it, and I think exemplary punishment should be given to the Airlines , I totally agree with Anup and Singhji, here.

Kalam frisking row: Uproar in Rajya Sabha; Praful assures action - India - NEWS - The Times of India

Kalam frisking row: Uproar in Rajya Sabha; Praful assures action
IANS 21 July 2009, 12:26pm IST

NEW DELHI: Holding that the frisking of former president A P J Abdul Kalam was "absolutely unpardonable", the government said on Tuesday an inquiry had been ordered and Continental Airlines of the US issued notice for its action that was in "wilful violation" of Indian laws.

"The frisking was absolutely unpardonable," minister of state for civil aviation Praful Patel said in the Rajya Sabha. "Action will be taken in accordance with the sentiments of the house."

The statement came after MPs from across the spectrum expressed outrage over Kalam being reportedly subjected to a full body check and even asked to remove his footwear as he waited on the aerobridge of the Newark-bound flight at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) recently.

"Continental Airlines has been issued a showcause notice under section 11A of the Aircraft Act for wilful violation of the law," Patel said.

"The frisking or action per se was was absolutely wrong. The former president and other such dignitaries are exempt from such frisking," Patel pointed out.

After Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley had raised the issue in the house during zero hour, Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan said: "It is the unanimous sentiment of the house that this is a very serious matter. I hope the government will take note and take appropriate action."

Patel also denied reports that security operations at the airport had been outsourced.

"Security has not been outsourced. It is still the responsibility of the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force). This incident involved the security of the airline at the embarkation point," Patel pointed out.

Dr kalam's age is about 78 years, if some one at the airline think him as security risk, with the fact that he is VVIP and ex head of state. It is very fishy............

I don't see anything fishy. It's a straight forward case of an American boss insisting on frisking.

Suspending their license for couple of months will teach them how to respect other state leaders.

Security detail should have done a better job--after thought.

FIR against US airliner for frisking Kalam
Updated on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, 17:22 IST
Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: Shocked by the treatment meted out to former president APJ Abdul Kalam – who was frisked and even asked to remove his shoes during security checks by Continental Airlines at the IGI airport in New Delhi – the government has now decided to file an FIR against the US-based airliner.

The FIR would be lodged by country’s nodal agency on air security, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) under the Aircraft Act.

As per reports, the case would be registered under Section 11 (A) of the Act for wilfully violating airport circular.

If convicted, the section carries a prison term of six months for the staff involved and/or a fine of Rs 10 lakhs.

The government’s decision to file an FIR, apparently, came in the wake of the continued reluctance by the airline to apologise for the clear breach of protocol and treating a person of eminence like Dr Kalam as a commoner.

The government had earlier in the day issued a show cause notice to the airline for the breach of protocol.

Continental Airlines, in a press release, reiterated that it has done no wrong as its staff was only following the standard US security procedures and that no exemptions were allowed in such procedures.

The release also added that Abdul Kalam was not offended in any way.

However, it seems the airliner is forgetting the fact that the incident involves a former Indian president that too on Indian soil.

The Opposition too is gunning for the US airliner, with the incident causing uproarious scenes in the Rajya Sabha. The BJP has demanded that the airliner be banned from Indian skies if it can’t follow Indian rules, while the Left has indicated bias towards Kalam, possibly due to his surname.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel is also taking the matter very seriously and has assured strict action against Continental. He has also said that he will go and meet Kalam and apologise to him personally.

We must appreciate our former President Mr. Abdul Kalam for letting himself go through the various norms as stated by Foriegn Airline. Atleast, he didn't react in very angry manner which reflect very greatly on his personality. We cannot replicate similar norm for our foriegn guest especially diplomats. Let's wait for the reaction from Continental Airline and all other media reports from US, which will certainly form a basis for such a frisking norms.

I agree with zoom on that above mentioned point but strict action should be taken if found guilty specially the foreigner who issued the orders not just two indian personel who were forced to act on their superiors orders.

If any other Politician were to have been frisked ,he would have been screaming his lungs out.
Hope Maya is frisked some day.
That poor chap will be booked under the Dalit act and put behind bars by her.

Though this incident is condemnable, the whole episode just further enhances the aura of our great former President, his humbleness and his simplicity.

In todays world people readily flaunt their far flung relation with xyz politician to show off and assume to have the right to abuse anyone and bypass all procedures and systems. Other politicians and pretenders should learn from President Kalam.

Its really sad that he was such a distinguished guest that they should have been really proud to serve him but at the end it turned out like this. Its a shame that it happened here on our soil and the matter was silent till now since it happened some where in April. He was also the supreme commander of our armed forces. throw out the airlines:((
