Monza could be dropped from F1: Bernie Ecclestone

Formula One may say goodbye to one of its most historic tracks at Monza, according to boss Bernie Ecclestone. Monza's current deal was agreed to in 2010 and Ecclestone said he believes it is unlikely to be renewed when it runs out at the end of 2016. "Its future isn't good," Ecclestone said in an interview published by the Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday. "I don't think we'll do another contract, the old one was a disaster for us from a commercial point of view. After 2016, bye bye..." Monza, which first hosted an F1 race in 1922, is one of the most famous and beloved tracks on the circuit. Every Italian Grand Prix since 1950 has been held at the track except the 1980 race, which was held at Imola. "Ecclestone's comments on the Monza Grand Prix are worrying," said Antonio Rossi of the Department of Sport and Youth Policy in the Lombardy Region. "As regional councilor I ask for the government to help us protect the Italian Grand Prix, which has played an important part in the history of Formula One and which, above all, plays an important economic role and brings jobs to the region." If Monza is dropped by F1, the Italian Grand Prix could be held at Mugello, a proposal that has been mooted by Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo. Ferrari own the circuit. Italy could also lose its race altogether due to the sport's dwindling fan base in the country following numerous disappointing seasons for Ferrari. "TV audiences are lower in Italy than elsewhere," Ecclestone said. "If Ferrari start placing first or second in qualifying and races ... the audiences would increase everywhere. Ferrari are a worldwide passion."

Formula One: Force India to use Toyota wind tunnel

Force India will use Toyota's wind tunnel in Germany for all their aerodynamic testing from next season, the British-based Formula One team announced on Thursday. "The decision to use Toyota's facility in Cologne is indicative of our ambitions to continue as a competitive force in Formula One," said team principal Vijay Mallya in a statement. "It's one of the most significant decisions in our history and gives us access to what is regarded as one of the finest wind tunnels in the world." The team said their own wind tunnel facilities in Brackley, England, would remain operational and available for external customers. Mercedes-powered Force India finished the season sixth overall.

Force India to skip Jerez test

In a bid to put more work on their new car, Sahara Force India have decided to skip the opening test session of the new Formula One season in Jerez from Sunday. The Silverstone-based team had planned to run its 2014 car with some 2015 parts at the four-day test in Spain but finally decided against it. "We have chosen not to run the old (2014) car in Jerez. The learning opportunities would have been limited so the focus is now on Barcelona," said the team in a statement on Twitter. Force India, who had finished sixth in the constructors world championship last year, retained their drivers Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg and had unveiled its new design in Mexico last week. The second and third pre-season tests are at Barcelona from February 19-22 and February 26- March 1. The coming days will see a number of teams launching their cars for the 2015 campaign. McLaren have an online launch on Thursday, followed by Ferrari and Sauber on Friday. Toro Rosso stage their unveiling at Jerez on Saturday. World champions Mercedes, Red Bull and Williams will launch on Sunday morning at Jerez.

After several delays, Force India's 2015 car made its long-awaited track debut on day two of the final pre-season test at Barcelona on Friday. The Mercedes-powered VJM08 left the garage just after midday local time with Nico Hulkenberg behind the wheel. The German will handle driving duties until Sunday when he'll hand over to team mate Sergio Perez for the last day of running. Having used their 2014 car at last week's opening session at the Catalan track because of delays to the VJM08's build programme , the Silverstone-based squad are now expected to put their new machine through an intensive two-and-a-half-day test programme in preparation for the season-opening race in Australia on March 15. Force India finished sixth in last year's constructors' standings, 26 points behind McLaren.

Missing the 1st two test is going to hurt FI big time and with Ferrari sorting their engine issue, Sauber is looking good and Lotus switching to mercedes engine will be competitive. Mclaren as expected facing engine issues with the new honda but they have the resources to bounce back in the latter half of the championship. I hope FI do well this season cause their owner financial situation is not looking good.

The German Grand Prix was cut from the 2015 Formula One calendar Friday after neither of the country's two circuits was able to make a deal with series promoter Bernie Ecclestone. The World Motor Sport Council said in a statement on Friday that the race was withdrawn because the commercial rights holder "and promoter did not reach agreement." The German Grand Prix, one of the most historic in the calendar that was first held in 1926, had been set for July 19. The last time the German Grand Prix was scratched from the calendar was in 1955. With the two circuits alternating annually, Nuerburgring was scheduled to stage the race, but because it has financial problems, Hockenheim had been considered a replacement. The failure to reach a deal means there will now be 19 races this season instead of 20, with a three-week interval between the British Grand Prix on July 5 and the Hungarian race on July 26. The German race has been losing spectators steadily since the days of seven-time champion Michael Schumacher, even though Germany is home to Mercedes, the car maker behind the top team last season, and driver Nico Rosberg. Four-time champion Sebastian Vettel, who now drives for Ferrari, is also German. Nuerburgring circuit spokesman Pietro Nuvolini said earlier that there was still no agreement with Ecclestone while Hockenheim officials announced that the facility would be unable to organize the race within the time remaining.
Nuerburgring officials had been asking Ecclestone to take a cut in his fee for staging the race. The fee is reportedly $15 million. Mercedes had offered a "significant" amount to Hockenheim to help in saving the race but the offer was not taken, according to the German constructor.

Force India are a step closer to racing their B-spec car after the chassis passed its mandatory FIA crash tests.

Off the pace this season after a delayed start to pre-season testing, Force India's hopes for their 2015 season are resting on a revised car. The car's debut has been pushed back on several occasions not helped by the fact that it failed one of the crash tests in May. However, the good news for Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez is that the chassis has now passed all the tests and is on course to be raced at the British GP. Deputy team principal Bob Fernley told Autosport: "We failed the first test, but it was pretty marginal. "In the end it was tiny, and although it put us back a week or two, it was pretty clear we would get through the second one. "There are a lot of elements to it, but it has passed all the tests necessary to go forward. "We'll now make it for the test in Austria, and then we will introduce it as a race package for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone." He added: "Considering the enormity of the changes, it's quite a credit to them to be able to get it through at the second attempt. "I always had great faith in them, and our engineers as a whole, so congratulations to them on doing a great job on that."
