On one hand Modi wants to get rid of colonial symbols and on the other hand we are mourning our colonial past??

More of a nothing more than a diplomatic gesture (bohot bura hua vro).
India off course disowns colonial past and but is not an obsessed enemy of Britain at all. That's it.

Kremlin has released an official statement, which points at something else. They released the official agenda in a tweet.

Topics they highlighted:

1. Cooperation in UN, SCO, BRICS, G20 and RIC
2. security architecture and counter-terrorism
3. Afghanistan, Syria and Ukraine
4. Energy and easing trade

Considering the number of times Dr. Jaishankar has had to answer about Ukraine, I don't think he'd discuss much on it. Remember, Zelensky refused PM Modi Ji's offer of mediation. If one side isn't ready, then what's the point of dragging the case further?

Better to focus on our bilateral trade. I am eager to know more about what we are doing with the Russians in the Arctic. Based on our new Arctic Policy, it will be a challenge to drill for resources in Russia's arctic territories since we don't have any tech experience in that sort of terrain.

It's a high risk-high reward situation for us. A negotiation between Ukraine and Russia would typically have 4 parties there:

1. Ukraine and Russia, the countries at war
2. Western negotiators (France or Germany or the US itself)
3. Neogtiators from Western camp, but who remained neutral, like Israel and Turkey.
4. Negotiators from the neutral camp that leans towards a solution but understands Russia's position like BRICS countries

We need to insert ourselves into this for the simple reason that this would be our opportunity to market ourselves as a reliable and strong pole option in the future multi-polar world. Turkey despite being pint-sized & facing economic shitstorm is punching so much above its weight. They have had a better success in the region, playing both sides.

There is a big chance that China will be there in #4 category. We need to be there as well if we have to get noticed.

Those in #2 category would push for a Western favored outcome while the ones in #3 would play a smaller role in getting what #2 want.

The #4 category has to be strong enough to be able to make a decisive outcome of negotiation. Can't happen without India participating or probably leading it.

I wonder what is this latest tantrum by Dmytro Kuleyba. Is he being told to look so poor and destitute that we are guilt-tripped into cancelling our oil contracts? The Anglos cannot stop the rest of EU from buyin 6x more than we do, but are trying to target us.

Seems like our past foreign minister of erstwhile Left-secular regimes were really foreign puppets appointed by the CIA/State Department.

U.S still hasn't fully decided whether it wants to declare china as an enemy, they are still posturing. tomorrow they might become friends again, and revive the old strategy of hampering our industry. even after so much anti-china rhetoric, they are keeping their trade options open.

until there is point of no return, i would think local approach would be to hedge as per probabilities.

now we also have the scenario of europeans hogging our traditional energy supply lines in ME because of ukraine war.

Commonwealth is just a tea-party and just an excuse to meet these countries. UK might lead it on paper but most of these countries would actually be interested in working with us.

See this from Dr Jaishankar's visit to the Dominican Republic. It's quite a lecture but if you combine it with the engagement in CARICOM and Latin American region, you will see why these countries are aligning with us using forums created by erstwhile colonial powers.

17 new embassies since 2019 is a high success rate.

Anyway this is the correct reason why we are fence-sitting even though China is grabbing land.
You don't want to be at the receiving end of a G2's Operation Barbarossa after they kiss and make up.

I have a theory that both the G2 gandus will co-operate just to weaken non-aligned strong countries like India, Russia and anyone else, For Russia the process has already begun, they will be in China's orbit eventually.

Look at this delegation tour across the country. This one is in Darjeeling. Looks funny but these charm offensives are really good as these delegates go back to their companies & policy think tanks and see what benefit they can get from the country.

Not to mention that many of them might actually be convinced about our seriousness about being a global stakeholder. Culture plays a massive role in shaping people's perceptions.

The Singaporean, Japanese and Australian tourism envoys seem really thrilled.
