This was very irresponsible action on the part of IDSA. They should have had a 2nd though before making this public owing to the sensitivity of the matter.

The German Navy Chief had a positive outlook towards Russian unlike most other European nations. And he wanted to take Russia onboad in order to counter china ( very outlandish ).

But surely India would gain from a better relation btw European+US & Russia ( atleast avoid sanctions for buying Russian weapons , or isolating Russia & pushing it more towards full-fledged alliance with China)

But NO we expose these people & get them kicked out of the system.

I believe it was live streamed . The German chief though clearly didn't know that, that's clear by his remarks.

Well, it is a pretty embarrassing situation for us now, frankly. We made the German Navy chief resign, indirectly though, and stirred up a huge diplomatic storm.

If it was our fault (of telecasting something that we should not have), we are in big big trouble and it will pretty much sour up Indo-German relationships.

If it was desi daaru talking for the German chief, well that is just unfortunate and we should not have been the promoter of such geopolitical shitstorm.

Not a very big deal, but embarrassing for sure.

I think this was a calculated move on part of Germans.
I believe they wanted to signal the Russians that they weren't siding with Ukraine in this issue unlike other NATO countries.
Germany is dependent on Russia as it imports lot of Gas from Russia.

USA is already a declining Power. Rise of China, fall of Kabul and then USA’s Wokeism. There used to be a time when it was actually considered a superpower while today no one takes them seriously, Iran and Russia were sanctioned by them yet are capable of waging a war. USA is seen as a backstabber which it is undoubtedly but world is moving towards a multipolar world order.

India is big country and we can handle any limelight for all the good or bad, intentional or inadvertent reasons.

There is no responsibility of the host. Indian diplomacy is an open institution where we interact with multiple players and have very diverse profile as far as opinions and exchange of ideas are concern.

There is no need to feel sorry about everything and anything.

An academic gyan-peloing others. And look at the subtle "esp if you are a German" part- classic US tactic of guilt tripping. Would never hear her saying you should not talk about fighting terror "esp if you are an American".
The Germans are pretty clenched butt themselves when it comes to their Nazi history, and don't let any opportunity to do virtue signalling (weapons export restrictions etc.). So this talk was particularly revealing in that he said the "quite part out loud".

Ya , on the hindsight it does feel like a calculated move.

Surely India doesn't need to be convinced to have a favourable opinion towards Russia or the truth that China uses debt trap to overpower the smaller nations.

It feels like the German Navy Chief's address was actually towards the European Nations. To re-evaluate their position towards Russia & that China is the bigger threat now.

He also indicate that, Germany may not mobilise its troops & resources against Russia in case of a crisis in Ukraine. As they see China as a bigger threat that needs to be addressed. So NATO would have to think twice before pushing the frontline to the Ukraine-Russia border.

He surely got his message across the table.

I don't think Germans see PRC as a threat.
From Germain point of view having good relations with PRC is way more important that Russia as Germany tends to export a lot to PRC. Their volume of trade is massive and not to discount the fact that most of Germain companies have some sort of manufacturing or allied activity either based in or dependent on PRC or both.

I thank the are trying to play safe and have economic relations with all.
