To counter China, India offers Myanmar a $6bn oil refinery

India proposes to build the refinery in the Thanlyin region near Yangon, official sources said. "As of now IOCL has evinced interest in the project," said a source, adding that this would be a win-win arrangement for both countries.

As China further intensifies its energy cooperation with Myanmar, India is working to ramp up its own presence in the same sector in the strategically located neighbour with a booming energy industry. The joint visit by foreign secretary Harsh Shringla and army chief MM Naravane saw the 2 countries discussing the possibility of building a petroleum refinery in Myanmar that will involve an investment of $ 6 billion.

Good idea.

Though it would be difficult to match China dollar-to-dollar, given our economic disparity. Without a partial preference for manufacturing & encouraging mass production capabilities, we won't be able to match China for the next 30 years. The gap between $3 trillion and $12 trillion economic size is evident.

The biggest problem with our foreign offers is that they are so fraught with political interventions that other countries lose interest. Take the case of Chahbahar port. The project has taken so much of time with no significant development on the ground, that Iran has begun to lose interest and veered towards China.

Since the announcement of the project until now, China has done 10x the infrastructure projects that any Indian government organization could do even if it were a fair competition.

Governments need to be aggressive & decisive; that's what other countries like.

Foreign outreach needs to be backed by tangible & quantifiable developments. The other country doesn't care whether you are a kingdom, democracy, anarchy, communist country or oligarchy - they see that we haven't developed what we promised and move away, while other potential partners start having doubts about our capabilities to walk the talk.

We Indians have this concept of "bolne ka tax nahi lagta", but other countries take our words very seriously. About time we realize this and implement it; especially in the government circles.

Without their ability to make money from it, it is going to be pointless. Iran's tilt towards China happened because we haven't done anything about the Chahbahar port. While Iran hasn't kicked us out yet, the port on paper is useless for both them and us.

The whole point of Chahbahar was to serve both Iranian and Indian interests.

BS.. Iran was playing us all this time with creating hurdles and more hurdles in the progress of Chabahar port construction and delaying intentionally in their bureaucratic processes . Iran never needed us to construct any of their ports in the first place. Iran has very good infra building companies than us. You and me can believe otherwise but we have to go by the facts.

‘No relationship can be one-sided’: Former Indian diplomats slam Trudeau’s continuous support to Khalistani elements in Canada

1608008957963.png

"Such blatant interference in India's internal affairs to appease a section of the Liberal party's voter base is completely unacceptable and cannot but cast a long shadow on bilateral relations. Such behaviour, against well-established diplomatic norms, is also bound to hurt Canada's own standing in the world", the letter states.

Days after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tried to interfere in the internal politics of India by extending his support to the ‘organic’ anti-farm law agitation, the Indian Ambassadors’ Group wrote an open letter on Monday, slamming his vote bank politics.

While slamming Justin Trudeau, who was earlier snubbed by India for supporting Khalistani terrorists, the letter emphasised, “It is well-known that the separatist and violent Khalistani elements carry out anti-India activities, from the safety of the Canadian soil. They are also radicalising the Canadian youth with far-reaching consequences, which is being ignored at the altar of short-term political expediency.”

The letter slammed Trudeau and other Canadian lawmakers for turning a blind eye to the nexus between Pakistani diplomats and Khalistani terrorists. Even after the activities of Khalistanis were highlighted in the ‘2018 Public Report on the Terrorist Threat to Canada’, all such references were later covertly deleted. “This editorial jugglery, may be good enough for domestic purposes, but the fact remains that neither Canada nor any other state can condone fundamentalism, violent extremism or terrorism, under international law,” the ex envoys stressed.

Imagine! A handful of extremists can hold entire countries to ransom all due to vote bank politics of host countries! People like Trudeau lick extremist/terrorist asses to ensure victory in the next elections. Diplomacy and foreign relations be damned!!

A noob question . WHY we havent expanded Bharat’s diplomatic service. Bharat has one of the world’s smallest diplomatic corps, with just 770 IFS officers. Compare this with much smaller countries such as Japan (5,700) and France (6000). Aint IFS’s minuscule size is grossly inadequate for Bharat’s foreign policy requirements, and as such, is highly detrimental to Bharat’s national interest ?

Cabinet approves Opening of 3 Indian Missions in Estonia, Paraguay and Dominican Republic

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today approved the opening of 3 Indian Missions in Estonia, Paraguay and Dominican Republic in 2021.

Implementation Strategy:

Opening of Indian Missions in these countries will help expand India’s diplomatic footprint, deepen political relations, enable growth of bilateral trade, investment and economic engagements, facilitate stronger people-to-people contacts, bolster political outreach in multilateral fora and help garner support for India’s foreign policy objectives.

Indian mission in these countries will also better assist the Indian community and protect their interests.

Objective:

The objective of our foreign policy is to build a conducive environment for India’s growth and development through partnerships with friendly countries. There are presently Missions and Posts across the world which serve as conduits of our relations with partner countries.

The decision to open these 3 new Indian Missions is a forward-looking step in pursuit of our national priority of growth and development or ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’. Enhancement of India’s diplomatic presence will, inter-alia, provide market access for Indian companies and bolster Indian exports of goods and services. This would have a direct impact in augmenting domestic production and employment in line with our goal of a self-reliant India or ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

Also what sort of skills are essential for being a diplomat.
Is parallel entry in diplomatic cadre possible or is it the same old UPSC chutiyapa.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Scientific and Technical Cooperation between National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) India.

The MoU provides for sharing of knowledge, data and operational products for meteorological, seismological and oceanic services, such as Radar, Satellite, Tide gauges, seismic and Meteorological stations.

  1. Exchange of experience/visits in term of scientists, research scholars and specialists, etc. for the purpose of research, training, consultation, focused on climatic information services, satellite data utilization for now casting and tropical cyclones forecasting.
  2. Exchange of scientific and technical information related to common interest activities.

  10. Cooperation in Early warnings of Sand and Dust storms through the exchange of knowledge.

Background

Weather services make critical contributions in enhancing efficiency of weather dependent sectors of economy; and in managing risk in weather-dependent economic sectors such as agriculture, transport, water etc. which underpin the economic growth in the region. Resilience can be strengthened through regional and global cooperation as countries invest in early warning systems and modernize weather and forecasting services. Due to evolutionary nature of weather, regional collaboration can help improve understanding of changing weather patterns, devise effective response strategies, lower investment costs, and foster regionally relevant technological innovation and address challenges related to modernization and sustainability of weather services.

Collaborative participation within MoES (India) and NCM-UAE in terms of activities related to multi-hazard early warning system and climate resilience can significantly contribute to economic growth in the region.

The scientific activities being carried out by the respective Institutes in India and NCM-UAE were discussed during the UAE delegation visit at MoES on 8th November 2019 and found many common areas of research. Both sides showed interest in the scientific and technical collaborations faster and more reliable forecasts of Tsunamis propagating through the Oman Sea and Arabian Sea which affect the coastal areas of India and North East of UAE.

This question has been asked many times, as a part of many news website articles, no answer has been forthcoming.
A large bunch of diplomats are necessary to help boost our economy and "profile" within foreign countries that matter.
