There is solid evidence some other aircraft than mig 21 went down based on witnesses and videos/images of the falling ac. It could be su30 but why would pak not showcase the kill when it fell within POk? So most likely f-16, jf, or mirage III?

Minimum wage set at Rs32,000

The notification says the minimum age has been set at Rs32,000 per month after an increase of Rs7,000.

LAHORE: The Punjab caretaker government on Thursday approved Rs7,000 increase in the minimum wage of the workers amid rising inflation in the country.

A notification issued by the provincial government said the minimum age had been set at Rs32,000 per month after an increase of Rs7,000.

Earlier, the government had set Rs25,000 minimum wage in the budget 2022-23.

Labour Department secretary Asadullah Faiz chaired a meeting of the minimum wage board and it unanimously recommended new wages.

He said the department had recommended the minimum wages and the main board comprising employers representatives would finally discuss after a month and hopefully endorse the recommendations.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the weekly inflation reached 46.65 per cent on an annual basis during the previous week, indicating an unprecedented price hike experienced by low- and middle-income consumers in the country.

Inflation measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has more than doubled since March last year when it was recorded at 12.7pc and hit 31.5pc last month. The high inflation has badly affected the salaried class which depends on a fixed income.

On Jan 31, 2023, former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari proposed the coalition government to raise the minimum wage to Rs35,000.

He said the decision regarding fixing the salary of workers should be made at the government level.

“It is the responsibility of the government to provide relief to the workers,” he said.

Pilots fleeing Pakistan due to major pay cuts, Senate body told

A plea filed in Supreme Court for hiring young male staff is yet to be entertained, says official.

RAWALPINDI: The Senate Standing Committee on Aviation was on Thursday informed that a significant number of pilots have recently fled the country as a result of major salary cuts in the form of high taxes.

PIA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amir Hayat informed the committee that 15 pilots had recently left the country and that a Supreme Court appeal for hiring young male staff for the national flag carrier had not yet been entertained.

The committee’s chairman Senator Hidayatullah remarked that the future of aspiring pilots was in jeopardy. He asked Senator Saleem Mandviwalla to take up the issue with the FBR through the Senate Finance Committee.

The Senate committee was briefed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CIA) about the reasons behind the decline of routes of foreign airlines.

CAA’s Director Genral Khaqan Murtaza said 31 international airlines had applied for operations to and from Pakistan with a total tally of 576 weekly frequencies from all international airports in Pakistan and there had been no substantial decline in the upcoming summer schedule.

The committee inquired as to why the foreign airlines were not permitting passengers to purchase tickets in rupees. Mr Murtaza stated that passengers were buying foreign airlines’ tickets from remote locations using VPN or some other means and it costs relatively less than the tickets bought in Pakistan.

The committee directed the CAA to submit a detailed report on the matter in the next meeting.

The committee also discussed the cancellation of licences of PIA pilots. The committee was told that 141 pilot licences were declared suspected by the CAA. The breakup showed that 18 pilots were not PIA employees while 18 were terminated from service upon suspension/cancellation of licences by CAA, 16 were deceased and separated, two pilots were on stay order whose decision was pending and the remaining 87 were cleared by CAA afterwards.

The matter related to PIA employees appointed on fake degrees was also taken up. The PIA chief said that individuals charged with having fake degrees had been penalised with termination; however, the Senate special committee on affected employees restored the appointment of the employees.

Senator Hidayatullah stated that the direction of the Supreme Court was crystal clear in this regard and should be strictly followed.

He said the employees appointed on fake degrees should not be reincorporated at any cost.

In addition, Senator Mandviwalla pointed out that a huge bulk of pilots was leaving the country due to major cuts on their pay in the shape of heavy taxes.

The PIA chief told the meeting that recently 15 pilots had left the country and a petition relating to the hiring of young workforce for the PIA had been filed in Supreme Court which was yet to be entertained.

The Senate body also deliberated on the matter of two Airbus A320 worth around $20 billion grounded in Indonesia from the last one year.

The PIA chief informed the members that re-delivery work on both the aircraft had been completed by around 82 and 92pc, respectively, and the aircraft will arrive in Pakistan by the end of June.

The committee was also briefed about the properties leased to different companies by CAA. Mr Murtaza stated that a major bulk of properties had been leased to PIA at a nominal cost and the leased agreements of the properties had not been revisited since long.

According to latest figures, PIA owes Rs150 billion to the CAA, he said.

About frequent cancellation of flights between Quetta and Islamabad, the CAA chief said Quetta Airport was undergoing restoration and daytime operations will begin by the end of May. However, the night-time operations cannot be carried out because a letter of credit (LC) worth around 457,000 euros for the procurement of necessary machinery had been declined by the government.

The meeting was also attended by Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman, senators Mohsin Aziz, Faisal Saleem Rehman, Dilawar Khan and officials from different departments.

I was skeptical. However, you don't seem to take into account the events happened on that day. Pakis story is inconsistent. From 3 pilots to 2 pilots to 1 pilot in custody is on record. They also said 1 pilot in hospital. You think it was confusion? I guess not. One video totally confirmed another aircraft was shot down. And this was a video posted by someone in Pakistan occupied Kashmir without realizing he was posting the F-16 shot down. I can't find the video now. But in that video one can clearly make out 2 ejections happening and even the people on the ground shouting "I see 2 pilots in parachutes".

There is a neutral aircraft enthusiast by the name Charlie Munger. He has got a Youtube channel. Even he has come to the conclusion that there was definitely a another aircraft which was shot down that day. I suggest you to take a look at it. Although despite all this, I admit idiots in IAF didn't handle the situation better that day.

Reserves drop after six weeks on the rise

Govt awaits rollover of $2bn Chinese loan.

KARACHI: The central bank’s foreign exchange reserves dropped for the first time in six weeks, shrinking by some $354 million during the week that ended on March 24, it said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, China is working on a request from cash-strapped Pakistan to roll over a $2 billion loan that matured last week, a top finance ministry official told Reuters, amid a stalemate in bailout talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said the reserves fell because of external debt repayment and stood at $4.24 billion — almost near where they were at the beginning of the month. Reserves held by commercial banks rose by $31m to $5.57bn during the week.

However, with the latest fall in SBP’s holdings, the country’s total liquid reserves are back at the sub-$10bn level.


Only last week, the reserves had increased to $4.6bn on the back of a $500m Chinese inflow.

Govt awaits rollover of $2bn Chinese loan

The government has been struggling to improve its reserves position, which is the main obstacle in convincing the IMF to resume a loan programme. Though the country has avoided default, it has been unable to make payments for imports. Pakistan’s external payments (mostly debt servicing) is the real cause of concern for both the country and the IMF.

The government has so far been unable to persuade its friends in the Middle East for dollars, while the Fund has also stuck to its guns — that it wouldn’t release a $1.1bn tranche unless Pakistan arranged the $6bn required to service debt in the current fiscal year.

A Chinese debt rollover would be critical for Pakistan at this stage. “It is a work in progress,” the official said in a text message to Reuters on Wednesday, referring to the rollover of the Chinese loan, which matured on March 23. “Formal documentation is underway.”

A formal announcement will be made, added the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, without giving further details. Tahir Abbas, head of research at Arif Habib Limited, said that if China agreed to roll over $2bn, “Pakistan will not receive any inflow, but there would be no outflow to China”. As a result, the SBP’s reserves will remain the same.

The poor health of the country’s foreign exchange reserves has grossly devalued the rupee, slashed the imports to the extent that it now hurts economic growth and has kept the country out of international financial markets.

Meanwhile, the rupee gained 26 paise to the dollar to close at Rs283.66 on Thursday.
