Really random question but, Is there any info about the tactical helmet? Like how much damage can it take? or can it stop a bullet? what about helmets used right now? what level protection do they provide?

There is no helmet in the world that could protect from a standard assault rifle only protects up to a 9mm even Mp7 was able to penetrate the new issued US army helmets in demonstration .

IA's patak helmets which are actually armor steel wrapped with padding claims to protects from assault rifles are actually much heavier than a standard balletic helmet .

the main objective of finsas is to bring our infantry to current american/nato standards which may take another 10 years while other countries will move into the future
FINSAS is not a program to reach to the present standards of US Army but it is a program to reach to their future statndards.
This program is similar to the future soldier programs of other nations. it is a line clearly written in the wikipedia article .

we dont know how they have worked out the problem but here is what other has done.

Before I comment on the Colt multi caliber and why downgrading .30 caliber rifle to .22 is not a good idea. It's not because it unreliable.

In the US AR stands for Armalite rifle. In this post AR will be regard as Armalite rifle and not assault rifle.

All Armalite pattern rifles (AR15, SR-25, AR10, HK416, etc) are multi caliber and multi purpose (rifle, carbine, PDW, subgun, light machinegun, heavy machinegun, sniper rifle, etc.). It can done by by replacing the upper. For example, the video show an AR15 change into a 9mm subgun. By changing the upper and using 9mm ar-15 design magazine. There is no hit to reliability. That goes for all Armalite pattern rifle.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euBMvpyxlJM

To change an 5.56 AR15 to 5.45 all you need is to buy 5.45 upper and 5.45 ar15 magazine. Mate the Ar15 lower and 5.45 upper and you're good to go. Keep in mind the AR15 is .22/5.56 caliber in design. You can put a .50 BMG upper on an AR15. Unless the upper have it own magazine well it going to be hand feed due to .50 BMG won't fit inside 5.56 magwell.

5.45 upper
Model 1 Sales: 5.45x39 EM-4 Upper
5.45 magazine
AR-Stoner Mag AR-15 5.45x39mm Russian 30-Round Anti Tilt Follower SS

.50 BMG AR15
50 bmg uppers - AR15.COM

Now to the Colt. The Colt is .308/7.62x51 NATO AR pattern rifle (AR-10/SR-25/AR .308). It is bigger than AR15 (5.56/.22 cal). The Colt 5.56 upper contain 5.56 magwell adopter. You can clearly see it in the video. What this does is to allow any standard AR15 magazine to be use. If the upper didn't have the 5.56 magwell adopter it can't use standard AR15 magazine. Without the magazine adopter special 5.56 design magazine is needed.

For private citizen using special design 5.56 magazine in .308 AR isn't a problem. For the military it make sense to have the adopter. Save money and logistics.

The question is, why do you want to downgrade a .308/7.62 rifle to .22/5.56 rifle? You retain a lot of the weight of the .308 and have a weaker caliber. If you want to convert an AR to 5.45 than do it with an AR15 and not AR .308 rifle.

i wish indian army to look at something like this for F-insas helmet and not to go for simple ballistic helmet with communication gear

The US Army is currently testing this awesome new helmet dubbed "Helmet Electronics and Display System-Upgradeable Protection," also known as HEaDS-UP. It was made by Revision, a company well known for making military protection gear.

Revision claims the HEaDS-UP to be more protective than current soldier helmets as it provides 9mm protection "and better eye, face and hearing protection." It also has an innovative Heads Up Display powered by an Android phone. Even though, the company hasn't detailed what kind of facilities this Android integration on the helmet is able to provide for its' wearer, it will make things easier for soldiers to contact each other and find valuable information quicker than ever.

The hamlet will probably will not be adopted as it is. At the end of the day it all about weight.

Depending on what configuration, a vest (to hold the plate) and 2 plate of armor (front and back) will weight between 25 to 35 pounds. With a standard hamlet that can go up to almost 40lbs. No ammo, no clothing, no rifle, no shoes, no backpack, etc. That 4 items can weight up to 40lbs.

A US Soldier or Marine is expected to carry 75lbs to 110lbs+ load and march for miles. This can only be done if the military keep it soldiers and marines in 100% prime shape, ie 0% fat all muscle. US military physical training is second to none.

Indian Army to Break up Future Soldier Program into Two Parts

The Indian Army has decided to junk the Future Infantry Soldier As a System (F-INSAS) program in favor of two separate projects. The new program will have two components: one arming the modern infantry soldier with the best available assault rifle and personal equipment such as the helmet and bulletproof vests and the second component is the Battlefield Management Systems (BMS), In the BMS category goes all the communication and optical equipment of a modern soldier which includes palm-top communication equipment and the helmet mounted cameras. The assault weapon is likely to be the Israeli Tavor assault rifle that has been chosen for Indian Special Forces. The chief of army staff, General Dalbir Singh, mentioned this in his 67 Army Day-eve press conference on Tuesday. Vice chief of Army staff, Lt General Philip Campose, told our correspondent at the end of the media interaction, "there is no F-INSAS program any more". He detailed how the army adopted the program in a way that keeps the infantry soldier less burdened by technology, and more agile to carry out his tasks.

This line appears nowhere in the full text:

The Indian Army has decided to junk the Future Infantry Soldier As a System (F-INSAS) program in favor of two separate projects.

The new program will have two components: one arming the modern infantry soldier with the best available assault rifle, carbines and personal equipment such as the helmet and bulletproof vests and the second component is the Battlefield Management Systems (BMS).

Observers say that the bifurcation has been done on account of the budgetary convenience.

In the BMS category goes all the communication and optical equipment of a modern soldier which includes palm-top communication equipment and the helmet mounted cameras. The assault weapon field trials are going on: there are four kinds, Baretta (Italy), Colt (USA), Bren (Czech) and Tavor (Israel). The last has already been chosen for Indian Special Forces.

Why is that the tactical computer and the laptop have Windows Xp, why isn't BOSS ( Bharat Operating System) being used..???? I presume BOSS can be configured for military use ..... and if so i dont see why we should not utilise it FINSAS
