It has everything to do with keeping as many lines of F-Teens open as long as possible. They'll continue to sell those Teens in competition to Rafale and EF for a long time. Having already a good amount of orders for the F-35 will keep the line open for a few decades.

F-18 SH Block 3 With the USN (78), Kuwaiti (28) and German order (45 to be signed soon), open order book of 151, add the roughly 500 Block-2 to be upgraded to Block 3, work till 2030.

F-15 SA/QA/EX: 8 USAF + 96 SA + 36 QA order book of 140

F-16 Block 70: 16 Bahrain + 14 Slovakia + 66 Taiwan + 25 Morocco order book of 121 with literally hundreds in MLU upgrades

Eurofighter: 28 Kuwait + 24 Qatar + 93 Germany (to be signed soon): 145

Let's see Rafale orders: 24 Egypt, 36 Qatar, 36 India and 28 French AF order book of 128. I would worry more about the Rafale actually. Apart from India, no one at the moment might throw a bone for the Rafale.

Post Covid a lot of small countries won't have the funds to shell out for gold plated Rafales, the F-16V, F15 and F-18 Block-3 (including in Switzerland) can undercut the Rafale in price while providing more of the same combat proven abilities to the user. Also the F-35 gets in the way.

I'll repeat it for the Nth time, it's quite hilarious to have 70's era Teens (F-15/16/18) (412 in order) still have 60% of the market share for Western 4.5 gen fighters. This doesn't include the F-35.

Japan Commits to local F-35 Production

The Japanese Ministry of Defense (MoD) has confirmed plans to continue the local production of Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.

The move reverses a decision in late 2018 to cease local production at Japan’s final assembly and checkout (FACO) facility in Nagoya and instead focus on the localised maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade (MRO&U) of F-35s. That move was previously prompted by the high cost of building the F-35s at the facility.

However, a spokesperson from the MoD told Janes that the new decision to continue building the aircraft at the Japanese FACO facility was influenced by the declining costs of producing the F-35 locally. Producing the aircraft locally, said the spokesperson, is now cheaper than importing the F-35 from the United States.

The spokesperson was speaking to Janes nearly three weeks after the United States government approved a potential USD23 billion deal to sell Japan an additional 105 F-35s.

This Foreign Military Sale means Japan will operate a total of 147 F-35s, becoming the second-largest operator of the aircraft in the world.

These aircraft will comprise 105 conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) F-35A aircraft and 42 units of the short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) F-35B.

The spokesperson said, “For the acquisition of F-35As in fiscal years (FY) 2019 and 2020… the Japanese MoD has decided to use domestic manufacturing at the FACO… It is confirmed that the unit cost of aircraft produced at the domestic FACO [facility] is less, compared to the unit cost of imported aircraft.”

Just to point out some retarded point and bias of Carlo Kopp in the chart:
In the High agility in subsonic/supersonic regime line: every other fighter is coded with green color while F-35, which give the impression that F-35 is so horrible. But just with a closer look, it all fall apart, for example how the fuck J-20 can be considered to have better subsonic agility than F-35? especially considering that F-35 can maneuver in post-stall regime while J-20 can't?

In the High specific excess power line: once again, he colored all fighter green with the exception of F-35 but then again, there is not a single EM diagram of any fighter in that line so how can he conclude which one have better specific excess power? and at which regime exactly? F-35 acceleration is inline with F-16C DI50, so how exactly he concludes J-20 and Su-35 have better SEP? :pound:

In the TVC lines, once again, with his BS he colored all other fighter including the J-20 green while no J-20 ever been fitted with TVC whatsoever

In the side looking ESA line, we see him colored everything green with the exception of F-35 while in fact, no F-22 are equipped with sidelooking ESA array, no J-20 ever been equipped with side-looking ESA array, no Su-35 ever been equipped with sidelooking ESA array

In the supersonic weapon delivery, once against, he colored the F-35 red, saying it got a bomber bays, while in fact, the bomb bay of F-35 have been tested to release weapon at maximum speed.

In the large thrust/weight and thrust grow line: once again, how is the fact that F-35 got 1 engine mean it got little growth potential? it got 1 engine but it also a smaller and lighter aircraft among the 4

On to the good non-RF observable, how exactly Su-57, J-20, F-22 better than F-35 in that regard? the size of F-35 alone will give it lower IR and Visual signature, along with the fact that it uses high bypass engine which will give colder plumes. Then it also got loads of cooling vents. Moreover, the s-duct also help reduce frontal IR signature compared to a straight inlet like Su-57 or Su-35.

Adding to this, F35 EO/DAS is literally the envy of even F22 pilots.
Engine growth option has just been exercised in the past few months with goals to increase thrust by 10% and decrease consumption by 10%. Thats 21 tons of thrust!
Even now, it has more thrust as compared to any fighter in its class, be it single or dual engined (rafale, ef2k, mig 29/35, almost reaching F15c levels!)
Coming to fuel capacity, it has 8.2 tons vs 8.8 tons for F22, with half the engines.
About armament, SiAW has been approved to provide best Anti Rad capability, not to forget sidekick to increase loadout to 6 amraam.

This comparison itself is biased, with every other aircraft being heavy dual engine air superiority fighter. Might as well compare the F16 with them.

F-35 can generate an insane amount of electrical power for its radar and electrical equipment
And for the air conditionner, because the beast is far too hot.
Do it need again to regularly open its bay to refresh ?

Half the engine but it need to sollicit it higher, because not shaped as F22. It's why it can't supercruise.

I have a question related to Israeli F-35's. Has Israel modified the basic F-35 export variant according to their need?

Conventional F-15E can generate about 84 Kva, F-15EX can generate 150 Kva, still fall short compared to F-35 's 400 Kva
My educated guess is that most of that power is directed and available for it's radar and EW systems. For example from the f35.com website:

While F-35 is capable of stand-off jamming for other aircraft — providing 10 times the effective radiated power of any legacy fighter — F-35s can also operate in closer proximity to the threat (‘stand-in’) to provide jamming power many multiples that of any legacy fighter.

Research indicates that adding more F-35s in a high threat environment is far more effective than adding more single-mission, electronic attack support aircraft. The electronic warfare suite on the F-35 gives improved emitter location capability over legacy aircraft.
While the actual jamming power of the BAE ASQ-239 EW suite is unknown, the fact that a single F-35 is a more potent jammer than dedicated legacy EW fighters such as the EA-18G growler means that the F-35 has more jamming power than the Growler which can carry 5 ALQ-99 jamming pods each of which has an output of 10.8 KW.
