Erdogan offered Putin a joint production of the S-500.

Turkish President Recep Erdogan invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to jointly produce the S-500 SAM, Haber 3 reported.

Russia provided us with a loan on the S-400 on very acceptable terms. In the second and third stages we will start joint production. I also offered Russia a joint C-500 production, "the Anadolu news agency quoted Erdogan as saying. In

addition, the Turkish president responded to criticism from the United States and NATO regarding agreements between Moscow and Ankara on S-400 deliveries.

1 dollar = 4.7 Turkish lira.

1 dollar = 68.02 Indian rupees.

So I guess INdian rupees is even worsen than toilet papers.
I Rupee = 0.92 Rouble. 1 Rouble = 62.5 $. So not exactly trash when India is dealing with Russia. Also it may provide some monies to Russia but wont lower manufacturing cost for either of them is production is to be shared. given Indian experience wrt sukhoi and FGFA, I doubt any meaning ToT would also happen, even if Russia agrees. Its going to cost BOMB for turkey. China is prime candidate to whom S 500 missile would be offered or who would lap it up.

When talking about the value of a currency, its stability is what counts, and if it is expected to gradually appreciate. The Japanese Yen is about half the Rupee in exchange rates. But it is still a solid currency. With the instability in Turkey, the lira is going to be very volatile and its value will keep decreasing.

what is it that turkey has, that EU so desperately needs?is because of the transit route ?

Turkey is now home to a very large number of Syrian refugees who want to go to Europe. Right now Turkey keeps them within the country and doesn't let them cross over to other European countries. But Erdogan has repeatedly threatened to let them loose whenever he has a complaint against Germany or France. Secondly, the EU wants the Qatar-Turkey pipeline to go through, which is the entire reason for them screwing over Syria. So Turkey can get away with a lot of things just because of its geography. Reminds me of another country.

Turkey has the bophors strait under its control. Control over Northern Cyprus is also something which Turkey can exert. In addition, Turkey is officially NATO member and has not been expelled yet.

Turkey may be holding refugees but Europe is still paying for it. Turkey gets few billion Euros for holding refugees.

Qatar to Europe pipeline is to bypass Russia and is the plan of USA. But after Russian intervention in Syria, that plan has gone down the drains.

Russia will be stupid to do this. But they could always make a S-500 version customized for turkey and give them license.

Russia did not offer joint production but Turkey did. I am surprised that Turkey has called it an offer instead of proposal or request. S500 is not Turkey technology to offer Russia.

Also, I am not sure what joint production would S400 be with Turkey. Turkey had shot down Russian plane in 2015. Only because the west tried a coup in Turkey did Erdogan moved closer to Russia.

After coup attempt, Turkey moved away from USA and NATO. Erdogan was initially arrogant and even had shot down Russian fighter plane. But the coup attempt made him change tack.

Erdogan is an Islamist. Russia doesn't like him nor does he like Russia. But he doesn't have much of a choice as he hates USA and NATO much more

Erdogan has used the islamic refugees as a weapon against Europe masterfully. He has profited handsomely from the threat of releasing refugees and received billions while releasing the Islamic onslaught on Europe. He has played Europe the same way Pakistan plays USA in the war on terror.

The threat of refugees is not as high as one thinks it is. Countries like Germany deliberately allowed refugees inside, not just illegal entry. Many refugees were deliberately given shelter by many EU countries. It is not that refugees were made to stay in camps and tents.

The reasons for not sanctioning are:
1) Sanctions will give Turkey a sense of certainty and will give Erdogan an excuse to go full Islamic. Erdogan may not have good relation with Europe but has very good relation with oil producers. If these oil and gas producers pay Turkey with aids and FDI, the sanctions will only hurt European interest. It is better to play carrot and stick by using trade as leverage
2) Turkey has control over Bosphorous straits and blocking that will make countries like Romania, Ukraine, Bulgaria without access to seaports.
3) Turkey is the gateway to Europe from the oil and gas rich regions of middle east. Sanctioning Turkey will make the gas and oil flowing through it a problem. Also, USA is afraid of Russian dominance in energy supply and wants to cut down Russia. Turkey is the only way
4) Turkey's cup attempt was just in 2016. There are likely to be other schemes in the pipeline

The West is now meddling in Turkish economy and has made the LIRA crash, forex reduce steeply and put Turkish economy in trouble since the beginning of 2018. Depending on how it turns out and the assistance received from Arab countries next move will be played.

A US defense official tells me that SecDef Mattis is opposed to Congressional attempts to block Turkey’s receipt of the F-35 and is actively engaging with Congress to ensure that the Turkey/F-35 language in the Senate’s NDAA version does not make it into the final version
