Angela Merkel’s Chief of Staff Slams German Automakers

If Germany’s automakers don’t start electrifying in a much more competitive way, they (and the country) will be screwed.

“When is our automobile industry, which is so good, actually going to be in a position to build a car that travels 50 kilometers further than a Tesla and costs 10,000 euros less.

China's NIO EP9 electric car invites you to sleep while it zooms

Autonomous cars don't come more cozy or crazy than the NIO Eve and EP9, two candy-colored vehicles that want you to believe the automotive future is almost here.

The cars drew steady crowds this weekend here at SXSW Interactive, which once again invited technologists from big car makers and brash start-ups alike to lay out their roadmaps for the future of mobility.

China ahead of the curve

China has now pulled ahead of other countries, a leadership position which it is unlikely to relinquish. In 2016, 507,000 EVs and PHEVs were sold in China, a 53% increase from 2015. Meanwhile, 222,200 EVs and PHEVs were sold in Europe, a 14% increase; and 157,130 units were sold in the United States, a 36% increase from the prior year.

I think electric cars are great.. the more people buy electric cars, the better deals you will get on IC engined vehicles :biggrin2: other than that they are rubbish and cause more harm to the environment that isn't immediately apparent as is the case of smoke from IC engines..

Btw interesting video..

after mobile phones.....we may soon find ourself importing electric car parts from china.....
and then the same old story of trade deficit & anti- dumping and all.....
......................................
.
Most of the parts of e-rickshaws are imported from China and put together by local dealers in Delhi.

The batteries, chargers and tyre-tubes used in the assembly of these vehicles are locally available, while the body, tyre controllers, motors and engines are imported from China, dealers said.
For example, the controller of an e-rickshaw produced in India will cost around Rs 12,000, while the Chinese are able to produce it for Rs 2,000-3,000,” an engineer working at an electrical firm in Manesar said.

India is also working on it.......but at present there is no competitor of tesla motors and rest of the world is far behind them.
Actually the biggest problem are the batteries which are more important than the motor. Tesla uses batteries from Panasonic. So the japs hold the key.

As for the electric motor, Mercedes Benz built a 740bhp electric car back in 2011 (one year before the model S) with in house motor and battery. That is about as powerful as the most powerful tesla today. The only difference was for all it's mental performance it has a range of less than 300km.

Battery tech has advanced by leaps and bounds since then, and it's mainly due to the silent hero Panasonic. The only thing that Elon Musk did right was jump on the all electric bandwagon very early and pump all their resources into developing an electric motor. It was a brilliant business move, but that all it is.

The day the likes of BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Lexus decide to go all electric for their halo models, tesla will be shown its place. But the Germans aren't too keen on going al electric, but the signs are slowly starting to show they are. But they are in no hurry to dump IC engines just yet..

What is Tata doing? What is Mahindra doing?

They are comfortable as Long as their monthly goals for the account books is met. Producing bullshit ideas like nano and whatnot..

They have the capability to invest in R&D.. but they don't. Meanwhile the Chinese have come up with this.. seriously all mockery aside, credit where it's due, while Indian companies are sleeping as usual, Chinese make an all electric SUV and showcase it in Geneva motor show

mahindra and Tata already making electric vehicles but very few people are buying them .........

Look at that Mahindra.. it's hideous. Why would anyone buy this half asses attempt at designing an ev? Just by liking I can tell that is the Revas chassis with a new dress.

Is the indica vista ev here already? I can't see it on their website..

My my point is, (I have also said it in the automotive thread) Indias products are half assed. It isn't quality material. Atleast of its high tech, it can be forgiven. But it ain't. We can and should do much better.
