Electric cars are on the way to become the future of the world. The ‘Fuel Cell
Technology’ is the newest technology in the engine of the electric cars for the
battery power. In the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show that includes products based on EV
platform like Tata Indica Vista Electric, Sports EV, Urban EV and NeuV Concept and other models like Honda
CR-V and Clarity PHEV. Some of the images of electric cars,

As India is readying to mass shift to electric vehicles, carmakers are preparing electric renditions of their popular models. Jumping on the bandwagon is the French auto giant Renault which is developing electrified Kwid in China. If reports are taken into consideration, Renault could launch electric Kwid in India. The report further cements an earlier report from October 2017, wherein the Chief Competitive Officer, Group Renault had confirmed Renault Kwid electric India launch sometime by 2022.

This Bengaluru-students made e-car can vroom at 120kmph

BENGALURU: After hybrid vehicles, the latest in the host of innovations by students of RV College of Engineering is a single-seater electric race car which, they claim, can cover 75m in five seconds and touch a maximum speed of 120kmph.

Operating under the banner of Team Chimera, the latest product in the college stable was built from scratch and can cover a distance of 40km at a racing speed once it is fully charged, said students. It will take the vehicle around four hours to be fully charged.

The electric car was one of the main attractions at the three-day Electric Vehicle Technology Expo (EV South EXPO) that began in Jayanagar on Friday. "It took us a year and Rs 12 lakh to come up with a fully electric race car weighing around 250kg, excluding the driver," said Shrikesh S, team captain of Chimera. “Our focus switched from hybrid to electric as we believe electric is the future. This car was designed and built by students on the college premises,” he added The expo is showcasing the latest, technologically advanced and pollution-free two and three-wheeled electric vehicles like e-rickshaws, e-carts, e-bikes, e-scooters, e-bicycles as well as e-loaders by over 40 national and international companies.

Online store for e-vehicles

Starting October 2, Hyderabad-based ev-max, an electric vehicle online store, will focus on creating an ecosystem for faster adoption of electric vehicles. Vasu Deva Reddy, founder of ev-max, said their web and app-based facility will help customers buy or sell their electric vehicles. It will also have information on service stations, charging points and spare parts for their e-vehicles.

Battery-operated vehicles to collect garbage

A private firm is offering battery-operated vehicles, at Rs 1.2 lakh, to collect segregated waste. Sahil Sharma, director of Haryana-based Arzoo Vehicles, said: "Each hydraulic garbage loader can carry waste of 350-700kg; it will have provision to collect wet and dry waste separately." The company is in talks with BBMP to operate these vehicles in Bengaluru.

"Once charged, it can run up to 100km for six to eight hours," Sharma said.

What is Tata doing? What is Mahindra doing?

They are comfortable as Long as their monthly goals for the account books is met. Producing bullshit ideas like nano and whatnot..

They have the capability to invest in R&D.. but they don't. Meanwhile the Chinese have come up with this.. seriously all mockery aside, credit where it's due, while Indian companies are sleeping as usual, Chinese make an all electric SUV and showcase it in Geneva motor show

DO YOU KNOW ANY SHIT ABOUT E-VISION CAR MADE BY TATA LAST SHOW CASED IN GENEVA MOTOR SHOW???

I think in India we must start with elecelec buses, taxis, 3 wheelers and even trucks followed by Govt Cars. Emphasis on Pvt cars should come last.

In fact plans for almost 100% electrification of Railways, expansion of metros is also a step in right direction.

True enough, most people driving in India have fuel efficient vehicles already.

All is this is good only when there's is enough electricity available. India has a huge electricity shortage. Let's fix the most important problems first.

Peak requirement is 160 GW , Installed capacity is 346 GW. what shortage?
Perhaps I need to reword it, power supply across the country is hardly reliable, peak capacity is terrible figure to rely on, there are several transmission gaps across the country. Also, once people start using electric cars, demand will rise more than 10 times. Shortage will come in later on.

Yup true.

No disagreement with this.

For next 5-10 years, electric vehicles will largely limited to in-city driving.

There are enough time to tinker with policy and implementation.

Thankfully govt is yielding the field to private players.

Sad part is that I am not seeing enough local research on this issue.

Its important to first address the abysmal protection offered by the bodyshell / monocoque chassis by our Indian brands.... far too long our indian brands were getting away with poor workmanship and zero accountability to safety .. ARAI the root of all evils,, corruption & collusion with OEMs and Government to pass off sub standard vehicles with nil safety features to the general public and we fools have been buying into this sunehra sapna of owning a car.. Piece of garbage .. Don't understand the economics of playing with peoples lives.. how many accidents could have been avoided and lives saved if we had strict rules and regulations governing the transportation dept also enforcing quality and safety standards akin to western world .. surely we would have bettered our economic state long time ago..

ELECTRIC CARS !!! Rate at which our road and highways infrastructure projects complete is negating any improvements in terms of easing the traffic otherwise achieved if it were completed in time .

A policy brought to the PM office to be discussed in parliament and then enforced as a law to be followed is a 5 yr cycle ... by the time a consensus is achieved and implemented , the ground realities changes completely .. and we will still be laggering behind China and the western world..

We are still eons behind quality road infrastructure , adhering to traffic rules and quick adaptability to newer technologies . I dont see any significant improvement in near future ... if both OEMs and general public donot change their attitude towards their existential urban mobility woes we can never transition to a sustainable non polluting mode of transport.

I have been to many countries in the world but never seen air pollution like in India and China. It’s simply unbelievable to outsiders. I hope that India rapidly adopts electric vehicles- buses, trucks and cars. ICE engines simply cannot match the efficiency of electric motor. Also, electricity is usually produced away from a major city which helps with city pollution. It looks like people in India and China are killing themsleves with poisonous air. Look at the picture above of Beijing. Can barely see the sun! The worst polluted city in US has 1/3 of PM2 than most Indian or Chinese cities. 80% pollution in a city is due to automobiles so any and all efforts work. One electric bus is equal to 50 cars in reducing emissions.

Once again, we fail to understand that it's not just vehicular emissions that are the cause of "air pollution" visible in big cities in India such as Delhi. Much of the SPM (suspended particulate matter) in the Indian cities is contributed by extensive construction (that is uncovered), farm stubble burning and coal-fired power plants and furnaces. Not to mention, a small breeze blowing across the dusty northern plains transports and deposits huge amounts of dust everywhere.

We can switch to all-electric automobile configuration, but that electricity must come from somewhere and given the Indian context, much of it will come from coal-based power plants, which means more coal-powered plants in the interim.

A more holistic approach is needed.

It's our way of controlling urban population explosion, which 50% of Indians are expected to be by 2050!

But on a serious note... India plans to switch to atleast 30% e-vehicles by 2030, starting with 15% by 2025.

Making railway (fully electrified soon) freight transport more economic that trucks is also a good starter.

India is working diligently to build the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) by 2019, the mega international Nuclear Fusion Research & Engineering Project to build world’s largest experimental tokamak nuclear fusion reactor, coming up in Cadarache province south of France.

This initial model would produce 500MW by consuming 50MW.
