A very belated(good)development which should have come long ago.
An indigenous subsonic anti ship cruise missile was the missing arrow in our (naval)quiver.

Though the Brahmos is a world class anti ship missile an cheaper stealth shaped sub sonic anti ship cruise missile has an utility of its own.

In comparison to SAM'S,anti ship missiles have an disproportionate effect in changing the strategic balance at the tactical level(non nuclear).

Even a small navy can pose a serious threat to bigger navies by judicious use of anti ship missiles. An salvo attack by relatively cheap sub sonic anti ship cruise missiles can maybe just be able to breach the defenses of an 1 billion dollars destroyer/cruiser.After all no defense system can be 100% effective.

After thoroughly testing and proving the 3 planned versions of our indigenous subsonic anti ship missile(SR,MR and LR) we should seriously consider exporting them in sufficient numbers to the Vietnamese Navy and other regional navies in S.E.Asia.

I am sure China and it's PLAN would not be happy with the sale.

Phiippines before Vietnamese.. Ph. has already been bought Brahmos.
Viet economy is intertwining with China as we speak. So escalation chances might down rapidly .

@treesspeakvietnamese ,
can you tell us if Vietnam has any serious ongoing escalation with China in South China sea , or future chances . Phillipines is having plenty of escalations in last few months.

Not disagreeing with you.
Philippines, yes,is already our customer.
But having acquired the Brahmos(more expensive than an subsonic anti ship cruise missile)which probably has an higher single shot kill probability than most subsonic anti ship cruise missiles, will they be interested in an non supersonic missile.

Undoubtedly quantity has its merits. They can buy more numbers for the same money. And I believe our Long Range anti ship missile will have an longer range than the present versions of the Brahmos.

Our indigenous anti ship missiles should be capable of being fired from ships, submarines and aircraft. Truly versatile.

And,if possible they should be fully 100% indigenous including even the semiconductor chips, actuators, sensors, software(operating system)etc. The question mark - do we have the industrial capability to make everything in the country. Going fully indigenous should be our long term goal.

BUT.. MTCR.. capped at 300km.

So ITCM Nirbhay 's long range won't make much difference, so cost will be the deciding factor.
Philippines will surely need huge stock of missiles by the look of escalations they are facing in recent times.

Well, maybe you have some misunderstanding of the definition of "small" navy.
A salvo attack will firstly require a pretty good detection and navigation system to find your enemy, unless there is a big navy, such as a US navy, staying closely to provide support, most of small navies have no clue where the enemy ship is over 300km.
Secondly, making a salvo attack is not a job that a few submarines alone can do. You will need surface ships, planes and even satellites to organize that. Again most of "small" navies don't have resource and training to do that.

After thoroughly testing and proving the 3 planned versions of our indigenous subsonic anti ship missile(SR,MR and LR) we should seriously consider exporting them in sufficient numbers to the Vietnamese Navy and other regional navies in S.E.Asia.

Why PLAN is not happy with the sale?
Currently, Chinese is sending out their Marine police boats to deal with South East Asians, the PLAN ships are waiting in the second line. If one day, someone decides to teach a lesson to those Chinese boats by sinking one Marine police boat or even a Chinese destroyer. The PLAN will be grateful as it will give them an excuse to wipe out the whole enemy's navy and takeover the islands.

That is why Vietnam has bought Russian's supersonic anti-ship missile long time ago, but they never tried to threaten Chinese with that. Why? They simply can't bear the consequence of sinking one Chinese military boat.

Does anyone here know whether IA has placed an order for Star streak aka LBRM? I haven't seen any reports in the media thus far.

A longer range ULPGM dubbed V3 is in the works.

Brahmos ER costs freaking $5 million per piece! Russia is milking this project like hell. DRDO must induct Rudram class of missiles sooner.

These can be dropped from Quadcopters no? If not then I don't think we have any armed drones rn except Hermes 900 which we got recently
As i asked earlier Swift should be modified to carry such missiles. It is inexpensive. Few hundreads of them in coordinated attack can wreak havoc in China's air defences in Tibet
