“Lack of trust by MoD on desi products” is a narrative. On one hand the same MoD is ensuring a percentage of their capex budget dedicated to indigenous products this year, how does that compute with “lack of trust”.

A better approach would be to look at it with weapon system tech as a vertical, in some verticals the country is self sufficient and yet to reach self sufficiency in many.

-there are verticals “MoD” buys nothing but indigenous (strategic missiles, radars, missiles, dumb bombs etc.)
-there are verticals “Mod” buys nothing but foreign because domestic systems are not ready yet, but armed forces can’t wait. (Twin engine fighters, MALE drones)
-there are verticals “MoD” has already earmarked for future dates that they won’t be imported beyond those dates ( negative import list)
-there are verticals “MoD” is funding themselves, so that domestic industry can develop themselves. ( pinaka, QRSAM , drone, anti drone )

Blanket statements can be misleading.
Ya'll Nibbiars I Can't use this statement due to the restriaction on the personal opinions. By the DFI on the Twitter's.

Y'all Nibbiars,
An interesting observation
Screenshot_20210725-134909~3.png

This is the Cockpit of Korean FA-50, same weight category as our LCA
It still retains the Dials, control interfaces have lot of toggles, buttons and switches and looks very complex
They may or may not have done away with later iterations or future variants, but that is another matter
Screenshot_20210725-134739~2.png

Meanwhile all glass cockpit in Tejas (mk1a?)
Looks very neat as compared to FA-50, no dials, all digital, and relatively less complex

Meanwhile, this picture is from the Padosi Forum PeeDF

They claim this is the cockpit of JF17 Block 3, (again, same weight category as our LCA) it has "sensor-fusion" enabled cockpit directly inherited from the Chinese 5G aircraft J-20
The Heads up Display is a version of Holographic HUD from J-20 as well,
As you can see, it has much larger Displays, larger than both, FA-50 and Tejas (which PeeDF claims best in class)
The block 3 looks significantly less complex than both cockpits, not to mention it just has a price tag of 30 million USD or thereabouts

Pig will remain pig no matter how much lipstick you apply on it. Chinese are not fool to share the technology of j20 to a whore.

Ya'll Nibbiars again you are comparing it with Mark 1A when they are comparing it with MWF and saying Udaan Khotala is the best. :hehe:

No,
It's a comparison of 3 aircrafts, which are all in the same Category
The Block 3 has a cockpit configuration which is very interesting to me

They claim all these bonderfool technologies, yet it comes so cheap, The Chinkis are obviously playing with the pigs

If you think it's 30 million , then you are believing a pig , a aircraft with 3 axis fbw , dsi , a russian radar with high spare requirements , a air cooled aesa ,which will limit performance as well as require more maintenance , and a lot more .

It's almost 35-40 million dollar , j 10 is quoted as 40 million but it's price as per chonks is 70 million .

Pigs are ordering mere 30 for now, I don't think they would be ordering something below 50 if it was so cheap

INS Tabar seen with new combat system upgrades

The Indian Navy's Project 1135.6 (P1135.6) guided-missile frigate, INS Tabar (F44), has been upgraded with new combat systems.

These systems include a new electronic warfare (EW) suite, radars and sonars, and are visible in recent images of the ship taken throughout its ongoing deployment in the Mediterranean and Europe.

Among equipment seen on the frigate include a Bharat Electronics (BEL)-built EW system that has been installed in place of the older Russian-origin ASOR 11356 EW system. The BEL-built system appears to be the Varuna electronic support measures (ESM) suite developed by India's Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL).

The system has a distinctive rectangular broadband receiver assembly atop the main mast along with two narrow band receivers installed on bespoke lattice masts on either side of the bridgehouse. However, it is not clear if older jammer elements were retained as part of the ship's EW suite.

According to DLRL literature, the Varuna ESM system is capable of identifying both low probability of intercept radars and conventional radars with a 360° azimuth coverage. The system can monitor as many as 500 radar emitters in a dense electronic environment.

Other noticeable changes on the Tabar include a removal of the Garpun Bal surface search and targeting radar for the Klub (and possibly Brahmos) surface-to-surface missile system, and its replacement by what appears to be a Terma Scanter radar set.

Another visible change is the installation of an active towed array sonar system with a distinctive towed body. This is believed to be the Atlas Elektronik low frequency Active Towed Array Sonar set, known locally as the Advanced Towed Array Sonar.

Tejas seems to have the optimal configuration in cockpit with size, placement and buttons to reach....the other one looks like freaking Tesla screens

Any difference between the MWF and AMCA cockpit?
Not discarding your question but what is the deal with this extreme fascination with glass cockpit? I think they are at a level of optimization already from a pilot pov and anymore touch nonsense you are looking at consumer level dumbness of touching and playing with screens...not to mention bugs and obsolescence that comes with heavy software integration

DRDO Chairman G Sateesh Reddy inspects construction work of Missile Testing Range in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district
FE Online

3-4 minutes

The project, coming up on a 154.4 hectare site, will comprise a technical facility, a few launch pads, control centre and state-of-the-art communications systems.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Chairman G Sateesh Reddy on Sunday inspected the ongoing construction work of the Missile Testing Range at Gullalamoda village in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

The Rs 1,000 crore MTR is being built on the Bay of Bengal coast, work on which commenced last year.

This will be the second MTR after the one at Balasore in neighbouring Odisha.

2 things here:
1> It need not be an ipad type full touch bonanza. Thats actually a problem.
2> an important issue with smaller multiple mfd displays is that LDP/munition sensor image isn't very clear. Raghu Nambiar described this to Shiv Aroor when he talked about his Kargil ops. Its on Shiv's youtube channel.

The point here is that a configurable LAD should let the pilot prioritize what info he sees specific to the mission. It could be radar picture, or sar view, or ldp view, etc. But it shouldnt allow too much hyper customization either, along with 100% ipad like touch ability. That will reduce the utiliy aspect of the display and make it more cumbersome to operate and configure.

Kargil was almost 20 years ago and cockpits have come a long way especially 4+ gen planes....software eventually finds a way to make everything inefficient and expensive and extremely complex and attracts mediocre talent at the bottom level. To me Tejas cockpit seems to be optimal and few smaller dedicated screens are better than one or two large mfd's that keep refreshing....its weird how visual and muscle memory trains the instincts. I think it will be interesting to see how AI will simplify the layouts but my experience tells me, nothing changes and bloat keeps taking over more and more
