Is this the indications of the kill chain being established for SMART system?
Kill chain for a whole lot of anti ship systems.
Navy will have multiple satellites in orbit in this decade to surveillance and track entire indian Ocean.

P8i , sea gaurdian drone and patrol aircrafts will form a layer of surveillance to locate more precisely.

What might follow is long range indian aircraft carrier ballistic missile with ranges 2000-3000 km !!!

Anything that covers oceans till Malacca sunda strait and till cape on the other side will be good for us. We will be the undisputed boss of the encompassing region due to our strategic location. Us will be there but our location gives us the advantage.

ISRO PSLV C51 launched DRDO-RCI's/ PES university 'Sindhu Netra' satellite. This satellite is useful to track hostile naval ships.This project by DRDO/PES will help in identifying suspicious ships through sattelite imaging.

Developed by the students of PES University with the support from the RCI - DRDO , this is their second microsatellite (RSAT) launch .

The first such satellite was launched by PES University students in the year 2016. For second satellite, RSAT, around eight students were involved along with seven faculty members in a programme headed by senior faculty Dr Sambashiva Rao.

This RSAT is configured and being developed at PES University for carrying satellite-based automatic identification system (SB-AIS) payload for monitoring the ships on high seas and providing vital information about ship movement.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Prof Mr Doreswamy, Chancellor PES University said, "Based on the successful completion of the project carried out for NRB, PES university proposes to develop SB-AIS technology with an aim not only to create opportunity for students to gain practical experience in space technology but also to help the country to be at par with foreign countries in SB-AIS applications as well."

Thethe satellite launched into about 500 km polar sun-synchronous orbit. RSAT is a 3-axis stabilised agile microsatellite weighing about 15 kg and measuring 300mmX300mmX300mm in size with deployable solar panels.

The satellite payload receives AIS signals transmitted by ships in VHF band, stores onboard, processes and transmits the ship's information to the ground station in X-band through a high gain phased array antenna during ground station visibility period. Satellite with S-based omni antenna system supports tracking, telemetering and commanding. Onboard control system with reaction wheels and magnetic torquers controls the satellite for sun tracking during sun lit period to generate maximum power and also tracks ground station for data transfer during ground station visibility period.

New Delhi [India], February 28 (ANI): In a boost for the country's surveillance capabilities to monitor activities of both military warships and merchant shipping in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), the 'Sindhu Netra' satellite developed by a team of young scientists from Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was successfully deployed in space on Sunday.
The satellite was launched using the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) PSLV-C51 which took off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 10:30 am today.

The Sindhu Netra satellite has been developed by the young scientists of the DRDO and is capable of automatically identifying the warships and merchant ships operating in the IOR. The satellite has also started communicating with the ground systems, government sources told ANI.
The satellite, if required, can also help in carrying out surveillance in specific areas such as the South China Sea or the pirate-infested areas near the Gulf of Aden and the African coast, the sources said.
They added that the Sindhu Netra is one of the first in the series of satellites that would help the nation in enhancing its surveillance capabilities on land in areas such as the Ladakh region with China and the border areas with Pakistan.

Seeking to keep a closer eye on the activities of the Chinese military both near the Indian territory as well as in its depth areas all along the 4,000 kilometre Line of Actual Control (LAC), the Indian security agencies feel there is a requirement of four to six dedicated satellites which can help them keep a check on the adversary's moves.
Along with the setting up of the Defence Space Agency, the government also created a defence space research organisation to look after the ability to protect space assets from being attacked by adversaries there. The space arm of the defence forces would also be bolstered significantly in near future. (ANI)

If its based on AIS,its application is limted.

AIS activation is not mandatory.User can switch off without ramifications n if asked by Coast guard/navy will switch on.As like he feels piracy threat.This is done bec any ship with AIS on receives detail of other ship with AIS on.Hence,Pirate an adversary/pirate can see the details. It's range varies as VHF Range varies. It has to be switched on when near port or territorial water.Even the User can get access and can alter his ship details.

LRIT on the other hand is law binding, monitored by all coastal states and its range of is a few thousand miles. Its based on Sat C Terminal onboard a ship- which is mandatory and used for communication plus ditress call.That's why around a decade back,USCG made it mandatory and has access to all ships proceeding to US waters or within 2000 miles of its coastline.

My guess is since its picking up AIS Signal,it may be low orbiatl satellite rather then a geo stationery one.

@Karthi please explain if we have any radar that can be developed as multipurpose radar for surveillance , tracking , fire control , replacing mf star and exceeding it

Till date there's no news about such capability developed by India.
I hope, maybe NextGen DDG comes with such radar becz India already having such capacity.

Yes.

I think you confused between elm 2084 and mf star, till date India don't deployed something like mfstar[indigenous one]. Also ordered mfstar for p17a. Maybe akash2/astra-vl navy version comes with similar one.
