Also the Akash-NG launcher is kind of different . One aspect of it doesn't make sense unless it is just for the test fire.
Probably it's a single vehicle system..for only test launch such a complex luncher design not feasible..

what was the timeline for this project?
DAC approval has been given for 6 such ex Air India Airbus A319/A321 to be converted into Netra AEW&C for $1.4 billion.
CCS approval and official contract signing might be done by late 2021 or early 2022 after which these aircraft will go to France for the necessary modifications required for mounting of the radar and then to HAL for the actual modification.
Possibly you will see the first aircraft rolled out by 2024-25 if things go as per plan

In a first, Tata to build military aircraft in India as it acquires IP rights


This would be the first time that an Indian private entity is looking at making a full military-grade aircraft, which until now has been the domain of the state-owned HAL.

In a first for the industry, the Tata Group will develop and manufacture a military aircraft in India, having acquired intellectual property rights for a German-origin platform. The plan, ET has reliably learnt, is to integrate indigenous sensors and payloads to convert it into an intelligence gathering asset.

The high-altitude, twin-engine aircraft, capable of playing multiple roles from signal intelligence to cross-border surveillance, is currently in the final stages of testing in Germany. It is likely to arrive in India in the next three months for further Integration

This would be the first time that an Indian private entity is looking at making a full military-grade aircraft, which until now has been the domain of the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL).

Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) will showcase the capabilities of the aircraft at the AeroIndia in Bengaluru next week. Though the company has not shared details of the design, the aircraft is likely to be based on the Grob G 180 SPn – a German-made jet that never reached serial production due to financial strains.

TASL is yet to get any firm orders for the aircraft in India, but top executives say the investment has been done keeping in mind future requirements of the armed forces. A manufacturing plant will be set up for serial production in the future, they added.

The company sources said the aircraft it is developing is designed for flying at 41,000 feet altitude with a maximum altitude of 45,000 feet and can be used for intelligence gathering, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) purposes. It is designed to land on grass and gravel. The low-wing, twin-engine composite aircraft is expected to have a range of 1800 nautical miles and 6-7 hours endurance with a payload capacity in excess of 1,000 kg.

“We are now focusing on modifying the aircraft to fit special payloads so that it can undertake a demonstration of surveillance capabilities. For a country like India, with multiple mountain ranges spread across the country, including on international borders, this capacity is extremely vital. India has been dependent on foreign suppliers to meet this need,” said Sukaran Singh, MD of TASL.

He added that acquiring such technology will enable India to modify and fit any payloads it wants within the country, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers. “With TASL bringing this aircraft technology to the table, India will have a cutting edge air-borne surveillance platform, with control over the software, customisation as well as maintenance, based within the country,” he said.

The need for effective border surveillance has been a focus after recent tensions with China in Ladakh.

CSIR-CMERI Demonstrates three Variants of advanced indigenous design and featured Mob Control Vehicle prototypes

In a view to elevate modern technical support to paramilitary forces engaged in maintaining law and order situation; train and equip them with advanced options, CSIR has demonstrated its three innovative variants ‘Compact, Medium, Heavy’ category of Mob Control Vehicles (MCVs) to a team of MHA recommended members under leadership of IG (RAF), CRPF. The demonstration was successfully carried out at Parade Ground, CRPF Group Centre, Gurugram recently. This is a first of its kind advanced indigenous design and featured development in the country.


The MCVs have been designed, developed and demonstrated by one of the CSIR’s constituent laboratory ‘Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute’ (CMERI) based in Durgapur, which had brought indigenous tractor revolution in India. The Heavy category of these MCV prototypes has a 7.5-ton payload capacity. While, the Medium category is of 2.5-ton payload capacity, the compact one is a tractor-based vehicle for easy maneuvering. The key requirement and followed specifications have been evolved, formulated with involvement of various designated stakeholders.


The prototypes consist of several independent operational units unified as per vehicle category and operational requirement during mob control. Few example, the operational units are height adjustable front shovel, retractable protective front shield, all round irritant spray system, foam spray system and tear smoke munitions system. The other capabilities are cabin pressurization system, retractable multi barrel tear gas launcher with appropriate electronic vision systems, wide angle surveillance, multi-channel video transmission system, GPS tracker and GPS navigator. The design architecture allows easy and fast customization in downstream products. The production versions of the MCVs can be tailor-made as per the actual requirements and functional priorities of the users so that their effectiveness in mob/riot control scenario can be augmented.Other than IG (RAF) CRPF, DIG RAF, Comdtt RAF, DIG BSF, Director ODC VHF, 2-I/C Assam Riffles, DC CISF, DC ITBP, DC SSB, T Cmdr NSG, SSP JKPS, DCPs from Haryana Police, DIG, Comdtt and DCP from Maharashtra police, Scientists, Technical and Senior Officials from CSIR-CMERI and CSIR HQ also participated in the demonstration.

Our beloved RM, Shri Rajnath Singh will inaugurate HAL's 2nd production line for Tejas tomorrow.

Technically speaking, it's the 3rd production line. There is already one production line at Tejas div with an annual capacity of 5 jets. There is a second production line at Aircraft division with 3 jets and now we will have this new line with production cap of 8 jets for a total of 16 Tejas annually.

Production rates can be ramped up as and when required to make 20 -24 jets per year .

The NGARM along with SAAW will enable Indian fighter jets successfully cutting down not only the air defense capability of the enemies but also obliterate their air operation options as well from a stand off distance. SAAW will be used to destroy bunkers as well.View attachment 75934

Saaw and Ngarm will increase our abilities manifold and allow us to prosecute enemy targets at a lower cost .
