Arjun mk1A is one good looking tank. Looks the part.

What is that box housing behind the turret and the aerosol dispensers ? Is it storage for extra ammo which will blow up in case of a hit leavibg the turret and hull safe and intact ?

Flag off ceremony of final production
batch of LRSAM Missiles

(Unedited Release)

Final production batch of Long Range Surface to Air Missiles (LRSAM), designed and developed by DRDO in collaboration with various industry partners and integrated by BDL, was flagged off on 14 Feb 2021 at DRDL, APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex, Hyderabad in the presence of Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, DDR&D and Chairman DRDO and Rear Admiral V Rajasekhar, VSM Director, Defence Machine Design Establishment ( DMDE).

LRSAM is jointly developed by DRDO and IAI Israel to equip latest ships of Indian Navy. This LRSAM Missile system can provide point and area defence against various aerial targets including fighter aircraft, subsonic & supersonic cruise missiles. The Missile is powered by indigenously developed dual-pulse rocket motor and dual control system to impart required manoeuvrability at the terminal phase. This state of art weapon system is designed with active Radio Frequency (RF) seeker to identify, track, engage and destroy the target with high kill probability.

LRSAM system end to end performance has been successfully demonstrated through number of user flight trials from Indian Naval ships. This weapon system has been successfully productionised and has been delivered to Indian Navy.

Secretary, DDR&D highlighted the importance of indigenous production efforts and complemented the industries that have established the manufacturing facilities and successfully executed the production orders in achieving the goal towards 'Make in India'. He also commended the efforts of Missile System Quality Assurance Agency (MSQAA), DG (NAI) in streamlining the production activities at various industries across India, leading to delivery of missiles with aerospace quality standards.

Rear Admiral V Rajasekhar, VSM of Indian Navy appreciated the efforts of DRDO for successfully completing the production order and strengthening air defence capability of Indian Navy. He also urged DRDO to design and develop similar advanced weapon systems meeting futuristic warfare.

No. They are talking about a RAMJET powered AAM based on BRAHMOS. In simple words, a desi meteor.
Wouldn't that be a liquid fuelled ramjet....and if so, then its already different from metor.
And technically, meteor isn't a large, very long range AWACS killer......although, it can do the job pretty neatly, if needed 🤷🏻‍♂️
So, imo,a desi metor would be an sfdr based AAM.....if it ever turns up...

Xxxxxx youtube channel picks up stories from here and there.
The Armata order story is from Russian media.
99.9% certain it is fake news.
Why single one of them out , when all the YouTube channels do the same , pick up information from here.

All the major YouTube channels do that , nobody is a exception .

So IMO it is wrong to name a single channel.

I would not call that a meteor equivalent.

Astra mk3 is the desi meteor equivalent in terms of same propulsion technology , performance etc

Brahmos AAM will use a different propulsion system , ie liquid ramjet engine with a solid booster.

I am disappointed with the Arjun mk1a , they had almost a decade to redesign the turret , yet they did not .

All it required was structural redesign of the front and top section of the turret.

1. Slope the front section of the turret and gradually raise the top section of the turret .

2. Then move the gunners sight back and place it on the top of raised section , so that the entire front section is protected by armour ( no weak spot as in the current design )

But the blame also lies on the army , lack of direction and participation in product development . Also they took 8 year's to trial Arjun mk1a , can you fuking believe that. Yet after this , they are going to trial it again.

The human resource talent and the technological acumen of high ranking officers of Navy is far better than airforce . Indian army is the worse .

If not posted earlier. We are seeing a design competition to develop mpatgm between bdl and drdo. How awesome is this in Indian context.

Now that the Siva pod that had been repurposed as a missile warning pod with four DCMAWS sensors have been made public at Aero India 21, let me post this pic .

When you have the basic building blocks in place, you can repurpose and repackage them at your will to come up with new products iwithin a short time and at a cheaper cost. Further, the exisiting pod is already certified for carriage across a wide flight envelope on Su-30MKI. So the exhaustive set of flight trials won't need to be carried out in this case.

I reckon, it will be better and will afford speherical coverage if HAL and DARE install the maws apertures on the airframe itself. Yes it will involve some mods and exhaustive flight trials to clear the configuration but it's worth it .

The DCMAWS jointly developed by DARE and Elisra . It uses two bands in the mid IR region as against the UV spectrum used by the maws from Saab on our Dhruv and NETRA . As such it offers higher detection and tracking ranges and superior discrimination capabilities due to the usage of two bands .

You and @porky_kicker has lapped on to the METEOR term literally and left alone the RAMJET section. I only meant a RAMJET powered AAM.
