The latest of the Anza series is not just but a mere copy of Chinese QW-2 , a second generation missile and will not stand a chance against the missile countermeasures that our helicopters employ. NAG series of missiles on the other hand are 3+ generation of missiles, its seeker compares input from multiple detections bands, either two widely separated IR bands or IR and UV, giving them much greater ability to discern and reject countermeasures deployed by the target aircraft.

You are right. Mig 27 crashed due to engine fame out and the Mig 21 was brought down by a Stinger. I think their Anza hit one reconnaissance aircraft of IAF "Canberra", but couldn't kill as the reconnaissance aircraft landed safely with one engine.

DRDO is a research organization which works under Defence ministry. It also works on field of agriculture and farming and sanitation which are generally dual purpose projects and indirectly connected with defence purpose. So its norm for giving awards on these fields too.
