Three more missile tests including the Prithvi -2 missile test conducted today have been planned for the rest of the month.

https://www.newindianexpress.com/na...s-month-2236730.amp?__twitter_impression=true

There will be an user trial of Agni 4 IRBM on Dec 18.

Followed by a developmental trial of MRSAM on Dec 22.

Mr Rout isn't correct with the details though. MRSAM and LRSAM have already demonstrated a range of 90+ kms. The max range isnt 70 km as he says. And Mrsam is not a nuclear capable missile.

Drdo is now working to increased the max range to 150 km by attaching a solid booster . IAI have already demonstrated the same and even sold the extended range missiles to Azerbaijan.

Now it's our turn.

The Mrsam which is the Army specific variant of Barak-8 will be able to intercept and shoot down TBM and NLOS-BSM with a high Pk.

Why just 6 aircrafts. A 2018 survey suggests:

" Air India currently has a fleet of 124 aircraft excluding subsidiaries. The fleet comprises of 22 Airbus A319 aircraft, 34 A320/A320neos, 20 A321s, 4 Boeing 747-400s, 18 777s (ER + LR) and 27 787-8s. Here is an inventory.

  • Out of the 34 Airbus A320 family aircraft, 4 aircraft are a part of the classic series and are retired (AvGeeks, remember those double-bogies?). Another 7 Airbus A320neos will join the fleet by 2019.
  • Of the 18 777 aircraft, 2 are back returned to Boeing for the retrofit them for VVIP operations. Of the 4 747s, one aircraft is stored at Mumbai airport without engines and 3 are currently used for Hajj flights. When not used for Hajj flights, they are used as Air India One (India’s President, Vice President & Prime Minister) and the Hyderabad-Jeddah and Hyderabad-Mumbai routes. Sometimes, Air India schedules the Queen of the skies on Mumbai-Delhi and Delhi – Kolkata routes as a capacity addition during peak season.
So technically, Air India has a fleet of 118 aircraft for daily operations."

IMHO more aircrafts could be conveted to AWACS, tankers and transport fleets for IAF.

The vanilla Brahmos always had a higher than 290 km range. The Russians deliberately understated the range to comply with Int ran nuclear forces treaty.

https://iz.ru/export/google/amp/1099447?__twitter_impression=trutrue

Now that the treaty has expired, they have come out with the true range which is upto 600 km.

NPO Mashinostroyenia has also developed and tested a 800 km range variant of Brahmos.

DRDO is slowly expanding the envelope in incremental steps after substituting foreign components with Indian ones.

The solid booster has recently been indigenised. The X band seeker is next followed by a SAR one.

This would be the most innovative step by IAF if they managed to execute it properly. A trait, A sign to become a powerful and efficient force in the sky. 6 AWACS in 1.44 billion dollars with self-reliance contrary to buying only 2 AWACS for 1.2 billion dollars from Israel ( as Proposed ).

I appreciate the Modi government for one and simple reason, Modi has been actively destroying the middle man culture in India. Our past defence policies were written and driven by dalaals only which kept us cash deficient all the time which resulted in neither we became technological self-sufficient nor militarily capable ( inadequately ). In the absence of these Dalaals, Now Armed forces can learn walking, Thinking and finding solutions on their own.

Military procurements often get delayed either due to cash crunch or stubborn illogical demands by Armed forces rather than lousy Babudom. A babu is nothing in front of generals. The previous Small piecemeal deals in the past have done a lot of damage to our defence capability and local industry.

Treaty didn't expire. India became a member of MTCR in 2016. A non-MTCR member can't buy a missile having more than 300km range.

Brahmos missile range was 450km from day one but we deliberately quoted 290 km to avoid the International headache. If one can remember, India test-fired an extended version of Brahmos missile just a week later after becoming MTCR member. Could it be possible ??

So according to this Livefist report and a TOI report, IAF will receive 6 A-320 based AEWC.

https://www.livefistdefence.com/202...vert-6-air-india-a320s-into-iaf-aew-jets.html

The DAC has cleared the project today. It's worth Rs 10500 crores. Under this the fleet of 6 A-320 will be sent to an Airbus facility in France, probably Toulouse to modify and retrofit them for the role of AEWC .

It will be in the class of Boeing Wedgetail.

SFC conducted a user trial of Prithvi 2 missile at around 7:07 pm

PS- It's a cover for something else. PIB or DRDO hasn't released any pics.

Also Prithvi 2 is used a test mule for proving out new tech. Guidance warhead propulsion sub modules.
Prithvi series missiles have onfield interchangeable warheads ( entire nose section ) .

This allows one to test new technologies with regard to RV , guidance , warhead , trajectory shaping etc with relative ease.

Big boost to Make in India: Defence Acquisition Council headed by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh approves proposals to procure equipment worth Rs 27,000 cr from domestic industry'

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) in its meeting, today held under the Chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh approved Capital Acquisition proposals of various Weapons/Platforms/Equipment/Systems required by the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force at an approximate overall cost of Rs. 28,000 Cr.

This is the first meeting of the DAC under the new regime of Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020 and these are the first set of Acceptance of Necessity (AoNs) accorded with majority AoNs being accorded in the highest categorization of Buy Indian (IDDM). 6 of the 7 proposals, that is, Rs 27,000 Cr out of Rs 28,000 cr for which AoNs were granted will be sourced from the Indian industry to give a boost to the “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives of the Government.

Acquisition proposals approved today include the DRDO designed and developed Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) Systems for the Indian Air Force, Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Indian Navy and Modular Bridges for the Indian Army.
