Interestingly, the diameter and length of the integration zig indicates the missile to be with a 4 foot by 1 foot booster provided it has a folding mid body fins.
Bro is astra with Tejas in taxi trial

Use metric system please. :troll:
I wonder if the VL-ASTRA will fit into the Barak-8 launcher. I mean it has signficantly smaller dia than the Barak & it would save us the pain of making another VLS for the Navy. Maybe pack in multiple rounds in a single launch tube.
When will the IN move towards UVLS ? :dude:

So aside from naval version they are making a land version too. We have qrsam on the sr-sam segment, Barak-8 on the lr. This is aimed for the middle ranges I imagine.

What of Akash-NG though ? Where does that fit in ?
Inbetween srsam and mrsam............if the range is believed to be 50km..
With akash ng we will have 4tier ad

Everything is not related to range

Time of reaction
Time to launch
Type of FCS
Type of seeker
Probability of kill
Engagement envelope
Mobility

Etc

Matters for deciding role

QRSAM is specifically for mobile formations

Akash NG is an advanced but low cost alternative to MRSAM

VL SRSAM is a close in short range system with both RF and IIR versions AFAIK , Indian alternative to Spider . Its range will be capped IMO in exchange for enhanced maneuverability .

I heard that astra range will be similar to akash and qrsam.........not 80~90 km ...I believe

Fair enough.
Do you think there will be any naval BMD missiles on our ships in the future ? Like the SM-3 ? The low range end of the ad systems are getting saturated. Ships with VL-ASTRA & Barak-8 would have excellent short to medium range AD capabilities. What of the high range end ?

Imo ads on ships are for safety of ship s only ....mrsam ...Barak 1 will be able to shoot a bm if targeted the ship...
There is no point to place a BMD ...when a single missile will shoot cm....a.d bm

VL-ASTRA is VL-SRSAM. It is for IN and its range would be at 20km range max. It is for our corvettes and frigates.
I know. Just 20 km, Astra has range around 100km. There will be some reduction of course but that much ?

What if we were to defend from SLBMs and having a BMD missile ona ship close by gives us the chance to shoot it down in ascent phase ?

We need VL-ASTRA in the Tor system for better mobility, not in truck vertical launch
Coming to QRSAM why can't we upgrade 9K33 Osa with qrsam missile and new radar with better guidance system.
