When order is almost guaranteed production starts beforehand.
For example lch hanger to build 30 lch per year is already build. Even when orders are not here more than fifty.
Assembling a aircraft or heli is one thing and manufacturing ammo is another. The pre-induction tests of a aircraft makes the delivery period a long one. No such pre-induction happens in case of ammo. IAF would go for QC test of a random bomb out of a lot. So manufacturing them before getting order is not in interest of BDL.

Private sector willing to work on Indigenous short-range air defense missiles.

Some of the Private sector companies in India have approached the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and have requested to give them funding to built Man-portable short-range air defense missiles in a deal worth $ 1.4 billion which Russia has won for its IGLA-S system for Indian forces’ immediate requirement of 800 launchers and more than 5,000 missiles under the VSHORADS (Very Short-Range Air Defence System) program. Under the VSHORADS program all three services, beginning with the Army demanded man-portable and shoulder-fired short-range air defense missiles against low-flying threats from the air with a range of 6-8 km up to a height of 3 km.

The combined tri-service requirement will be close to 15000 missiles in a deal worth close to $ 4 billion. VSHORADS program has been in several controversies over the years and the Indian Army has been accused of favoring the Russian system even though it failed to clear all technical trials. idrw.org has been informed that some of the leading Private sector companies are willing to develop a similar product in less than two years and enter testing and technical trials by the third year and enter production their after. With Make in India 2.0 thrust by the Government and MOD in the defense sector, Private sector companies who have approached MOD are hopeful that they will be allowed to present their concept and project details before actual work on the missile system is sanctioned

Spread spectrum can use as DRDO’s Anti Jamming Capability for UAVs.



While operating in mission mode, UAVs constantly remains in the vicinity of enemy territory performing surveillance and reconnaissance. In such a scenario, there are far more chances of enemy jamming the up link providing critical manoeuvring commands to the UAV as well the payloads. DRDOs Spread Spectrum Modem (SSM) to provide anti-jam capabilities to the UAVs.

Spread Spectrum techniques are well established for providing jam resistance to communication links. For data link system of tactical UAV, the earlier implementation of the SSM was analog. The SSM provides both anti-jam and clear modes for different types of operations. Spread-Spectrum techniques are methods by which a signal generated with a particular bandwidth is deliberately spread in the frequency domain, resulting in a signal with a wider bandwidth. These techniques are used for a variety of reasons, including the establishment of secure communications, increasing resistance to natural interference, noise and jamming, to prevent detection. Frequency Domain is a sum or integral of sine waves of different frequencies, each of which represents a frequency component. The entire spectrum of these frequency components is collectively called a Frequency Domain.

The current implementation of SSM is completely digital, designed in FPGA. Digitisation has provided configurability and miniaturisation. Encryption and forward error correction (FEC) is the another feature incorporated in its design. A strong encryption algorithm was applied prior to spreading the command data. The performance of these modems for airborne platforms has been evaluated on long-EZ aircraft. The Forward Error Correction is a technique of providing 'redundancy’ that allows the receiver to detect a limited number of errors that may occur anywhere in the message, and often to correct these errors. Checksums are a way of adding desired redundancy.

For MALE UAV 2 data links, these modems are being re-engineered for efficiency and inter-operability. Apart from the standard features of SSM, audio data from the ground has also been multiplexed with the command data to enable audio communication between the remote pilot and the controller.

Indian Navy Commissioned Its Seventh MK-IV Landing Craft Utility Ship.

INLCU L57 is the seventh Landing Craft Utility (LCU) MK-IV class to be inducted into the Indian Navy. The ship has been indigenously designed and built by M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata. The commissioning of INLCU L57 is yet another manifestation of the country’s indigenous design and ship building capability.

The LCU MK-IV ship, is an amphibious vessel with a designated primary role of transporting and deploying Main Battle Tanks, Armoured Vehicles, troops and equipment from ship to shore. Based at the Andaman and Nicobar Command, these ships can be deployed for multirole activities like beaching operations, search and rescue, disaster relief operations, supply and replenishment and evacuation from distant islands.

The ship, commanded by Lieutenant Commander Harshvardhan Venugopal, has a complement of five officers, 45 sailors and is capable of carrying 160 troops in addition. The ship, displacing 830 tonnes, is capable of transporting various kinds of combat equipment such as Main Battle Tanks Arjun, T72 and other vehicles. The ship is fitted with state-of-art equipment and advanced systems, like Integrated Bridge System (IBS) and Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS).

The last ship of the same class is at an advanced stage of construction at M/S GRSE, Kolkata, and is scheduled to be inducted by this year end. It is anticipated that induction of these ships will contribute to the nation’s maritime security needs, in consonance with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s drive for ‘Make in India’.
