FMBT 3.jpg

This picture from DRDO publication is very similar to the Brazilian EE- T2 Osorio MBT having a 120 mm main gun and weighing about 44 tons. The tank was developed during the mid-1980s by Engesa company both for Brazilian Army and export customers. This MBT was developed as a private venture, with only little support from the Brazilian government. The first prototype was completed in 1985, the second followed in 1986. Generally it was a successful design, however due to the lack of funding it was not accepted to service with the Brazilian Army, which at one time had a requirement of 300 new main battle tanks. This MBT also received no production orders from export customers. Eventually the Osorio project was abandoned and Engesa went bankrupt.

Now to question arises, why would DRDO release a 3D CAD drawing of a MBT of a long abandoned project of another country?

Hand held GPR configured on a 1.6m collapsible wand. Vehicle Mounted GPR is mainly used for scanning and detecting buried objects on roads and tracks that are used by patrolling parties of Para-military forces and services. GUI offers radar images in 2D as well as 3D. Target classification of the detected buried targets is indicated with appropriate confidence levels.

Guidance Wire For TorpedoesThe current density required for a high-powered battery is of the order of 200 mA/cm2. This demands usage of a large amount of silver per ampere hour, a major part of which remains unrealised. To achieve the high battery voltage, a large number of cells need to be connected in series. These complexities often result into generation of high heat during discharging of the battery. By the end of the discharge, internal heat generated in the cells leads to the situation where the electrolyte starts boiling. This results in spillage of electrolyte and resistance drop in battery. High temperature generated internally affects battery's life cycle and its separators also. This requires working out of cell design, active material characterisation, and optimal use of separator material. DRDO has developed a 250 kW secondary battery consisting of zinc as anode, silver oxide as cathode, and potassium hydroxide as electrolyte. lt delivers 400 V on load at a discharge current of625 A for a short duration of 5 min.

The battery, which is used for heavyweight torpedo propulsion, will enhance the propulsion characteristics of the weapon. This will help in increasing the speed of torpedoes due to increased power from the present 100 kW to 250 kW, almost within the same space.
