movies exaggerate a lot though ---- 2003 Air Force report above, a 6.1 m × 0.3 m tungsten cylinder impacting at Mach 10 has a kinetic energy equivalent to approximately 11.5 tons of TNT or 7.2 tons of dynamite.
Damage by weapons cannot be calculated in isolation.

Eg.
An area in a high seismic zone will be more vulnerable

God forbid it there exists a tectonic fault line in the area , that 11.5 tons of TNT will trigger release of hundreds and thousands of tons of TNT equivalent tectonic energy.

Why use a machete to chop vegetables ?

Spare a thought for the use of the word " strategic "

It implies targets of highest importance which implies heavy protected underground complexes used to hide WMDs.

Google for porky WMD sites they are deeply buried complexes with NATO standard protection like triple layered overhead physical defences at ingress and egress points.

It is no joke to defeat them
I thought that work was for brahmos?it is for that purpose.

Mach 10???

How could you calculate the velocity to be so low?

Just imagine few of these packed into a Prithvi or A1P warhead.

These could make a mincemeat of any enemy runway. Way beyond repair.

Lol that will be good idea , our version of sub orbital bombardment.

I believe that weights at 2 tons

And if it is what we believe it to be and somebody is crazy enough to use it on a runway

Forget about repair , you have to built a new runway at a different location.

The whole stratigraphy of the area will be messed up

These bombs would weigh from 250 to 1000 Kg category.

Reminds me of the DRDO shaped charged based multistage warhead system .

It is possible it might end up in the penetrator munition/bomb

This shows the anti runway effect of 125kg SAAW .

Note the vertical dive

Warhead was PCB ie penetration cum blast

Would have loved to see the size and depth of the crater.

SAAW in my opinion will be good for hitting aircraft bunkers / hangers , ATC , ammo pens , radar installations , power stations etc

For anti runway ops quite a no of SAAWs will be needed to disable a section of the runway.

To really put out a runway for good we need a bomb which can cause enough damage to loosen the underlying strata / layers of earth/rocks over a large area

SAAW is not just a standalone system. But it could deploy bomblets too.

I am talking of deploying these in such a configuration.

Although it would not hold more then 3 or 4, but the mere effect would be more then devastating.

Name of this warhead is BCES blast cum earth shake :biggrin2:

Though the RDP version is also there for exclusive anti runway use. There the submunitions are rocket powered.

Yes. This infact is itself capable enough to bring a mini earthquake. Now just imagine 1500 or 2000 kg TNT going off inside a tunnel or underground structure or even in a runway. It would just turn the earth upside down along with bringing down any adjacent building structure.

During balakot we should have fired one on an porky airbase as retaliation. We could have seen first hand the effectiveness of the same .

Drdo says only 1000kg of payload (on army variant) :confused1:
