Problem with us is that we associate each and every product out there with Army, Navy or Airforce and think from that perspective.

An IA platoon out on patrol will primarily depend on their dedicated SATCOM for communication with base station. LF radio set comes second. But devices like these are complimented by third line of communication devices like these.

Back in early 2000 there was a project being carried out for HM. It was for satellite based communication for voice and data. Although the posts were already connected with LF based radio, but the project been implemented for secured Voice and Data transfer. The main benefit of the project was seen in data transfer. The officials when on patrolling would capture images across the IB on their Point and Shoot cam and the same images would then be transferred to HQ for further evaluation. But before implementing the project, it would have sometime taken months before HQ receives those images. After implementing the project, once the team reach their base location they could immediately transfer the images. But that too would take atleast a month time as this is generally what it takes to complete a patrol.

But now imagine a device like this in hands of those patrolling parties. They could immediately relay those images to HQ from field. Army or defence forces does have the leisure that they are provided with dedicated SATCOMM during patrol, but same is not true to other agencies. For them system like these are a boon. Not only in our borders, we have need of such systems in our interior parts like Dantewada which is not covered by mobile network. Operators operating in those regions don't carry a Satellite phone, but do have a mobile phone. So don't look at this from a single perspective.

Let us review what this product is and then what they advertise it as.

In short, it is a SATCOM node which connects devices via Bluetooth. It is advertised as a way to get secure communications without a mobile network. Due to the short range of BT technologies, this is not what it does. She specifically demonstrates sending text messages for help like a solider out in the jungle would need. The short range of BT does not allow this to be an option as she advertises it unless that jawan never leaves base camp. Do you see the problem now?

Last time one single weapon could do that was German 88mm Flak gun... it fire anti-tank, anti-personnel, anti-structure & anti-aircraft rounds.

Canadian ADATS supposedly is dual purpose. It had the bad luck of arriving just at the tail end of 80s, when the end of the cold war resulted in cancelation of further development.

On a serious note, Hemant Rout is the most trusted jurno in entire India for all kinds of missile test from PXE, Chandipur and Wheeler/ Kalam Island. Both centers use him like an official tool for all media releases which meant for the general public.

For instance, recently he was the first person to report about the Agni-3 failure. In the past this guy has predicted the fate of each Nirbhay CM test even before the official test and all of predictions were a bang on.

But, yes this tweet is bit of interesting though.

SM-2 SAM is used in an anti ship role as well... SAM against a tank... that is not proportional.. and not worth the expense

Now I could see your problem.

Anyway did the girl advertising the product said anywhere that the recipient needs to be within 10 or 100 mtr of the hub to receive message?
Did anywhere she mentioned that both sender and receiver needs to be connected to same hub?
Did anywhere the girls mentioned that it is only to send message?
Did she anywhere mentioned that it can't support data?
Anyway lets just ask them to place one person in Noida and another in Gurugram next time whenever they give demo in any expo.

Naval Sam has secondary Anti Ship role. Russian Sam's (except short range) had secondary anti Surface Role.

QRSAM will be very effective in direct firing mode against ground targets, albeit very costly. Pinaka-2 & Howitzer makes much better sense

Anyways it's seems there are multiple types of long range radars in operations / development other than LRTR radars.

Interestingly drdo calls all of them LRTR even though the form factors are different.

The drdo LRTR above does not have vertical ridges on the radar face as seen below on another pic of drdo LRTR

The drdo LRTRs below are totally different

This one is squarish not rectangular

This one has 3 different panels
