My question is for IA + MoD. India's defence planners.

Why they are upgrading i don't understand. But they should have planned something 5-10 years back so that when it comes to end of service life. We can discard old Soviet APCs and buy Indian alternatives. As India is strong in auto.

Thanks for sharing. So from 2017 onwards MoD was dragging it and 2024 it got CCS clearance. If IA would have inducted Abhay we could have seen Abhay mk3 by now.

They are upgrading because these will be replaced 2030 onwards they don't wanna use outdated bmps 6 more year's.

I think it is wasting money on soviet era systems. These systems also have high maint costs.

another way to look at it:-

- this Govt came in 2014
- MoD under manohar parrikar did buyer/vendor consultations on defence acquisitions to resolve old dead locks,
- MoD came up with DAP 2016
- some acquisitions went thru some didn't, there were still unresolved issues
- this govt came back in 2019
- MoD did another round of industry and buyer consultations
- MoD came up with DAP 2020
- MoD also came up with positive indigenisation list since 2020, to assure domestic industry that there is a assured revenue stream for them
- acquisition processes that were stuck pre-2020, were restarted and are going thru under DAP 2020.

here we are in 2024..

RN Singh is useless no charisma, no decision taking abilities. After 2 terms, he should consider something else.

Agree with you and those DAPs had positive impacts but not as much expected because it is still DRDO, MDL, HAL doing primary works. Hand holding still going on. So we did some mistakes. Specially MoD wrt giving orders to prv cos and asking for accountability from DRDO, HAL, MDL etc.

For example if we consider AMCA or P-75I. These are going on for more than a decade. This is not how product development works, else everything cutting edge will bevome obslete by the time inducted.
