In case of power plants only , I don't see the issue here for the requirements are for 300 nos ( no comments on the rest of the controversy whatever it maybe ) .

Assuming the nos will go up , it still won't be more than twice the current requirements. It doesn't make economic sense to develop an engine purely for 600 nos .

In case of FRCV & FICV , the numbers are huge , the dependencies more if we choose a foreign OEM mfgd power pack plus there's the export market potential which in case of light tanks is practically non existent.

I sincerely hope you don't post more content by this content creator now onwards. He's confused auto loading of a howitzer with robotics.

Good luck achieving those stated flight parameters with a piston engine.
Turboprops were not to be used as they cost atleast 10x more.
Which piston engine UAV in the world has reached 30k feet? I think none. I can't find anywhere that any price restriction (of not using gas-turbine/turboprop/turbofan engine) was a factor or requirement, I will be happy if you can give me a link to such requirement.

IMO nobody stopped DRDO from using a gas-turbine engine. All MALE/HALE UCAVs use gas-turbine engines. Efficient operation of ICE at such high altitute is simply not possible, and hence cannot produce o/p power required for high-altitude operations.
DRDO should have discarded such an underpowered engine after few rounds of resting if not immediately during design discussions.

Also, the Late Gen Bipin Rawat had stated that the Armed Forces should induct a said platform even if it satisfies 70% of the requirements stated in the GSQR, what happened to that?
He died, and with him, his (good or bad) ideals like IBG & Airforce being a secondary power. (Not trying to mock him just stating reality).

The entire point of the program was to develop a cost-effective MALE UAV, and for that specific reason piston engines are they way to go.
Since one piston engine was not enough, it was decided to go with two but the gap still remained.
Also, the Tapas has proven that it can operate at an altitude of 28,000ft and with an endurance of 18hrs, which is normal operational characteristics and not marketed operational parameters.

Here we are debating between turboprops and piston engines and you are saying DRDO should have gone with gas turbines ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚, that would entirely defeat the purpose of having a cost-effective MALE UAV.

That's the point fanboys are unable to understand.

Army from start stated they want a MALE UAV with this & this requirement. The requirements were not at all outrageous or unreachable, very reasonable.

DRDO/ADE had decades to make it, whatever & however they want. They failed to deliver, again & again, simple.
Many countries achieved such MALE UAVs in last few years. While ADE is one of the most failed lab of DRDO.

This is outrageous. If US govt want they can pause mk2 program as long as they want. Instead GOI should have ask DRDO to search for other engine maker. Apart from US only Russians have developed engine with 100KN plus engine in last few decades. Our choice is limited. RR, Saffan etc can develop but their current Ej or M are much smaller.

But I am not sure if Russia will ever agree with complete know how transfer of recent engine developed for Su-57 engine. :tongue2:

Are you proposing Al31/ Su57-AL41 engine for Tejas MK2 ??
