The conversation was about R&D. Tejas networks does their own R&D and they are the OEMs. What they cannot manufacture they buy from companies like valiant and Sanmina Sci in Chennai.
Tejas got the BSNL order through TCS btw. So, the Tatas are involved in a big way here.
Tejas also exports to France, Mexico and some other countries in Europe.

I added Indus and Summit in the because you said there are no companies that build the telecom infra in India.
They are solution provider just like TCS which also provide app development apart from being BPO which is its primary business. But primary software OEMs are still Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Google etc.

Jio, Airtel, Vi all three majors primarily use outside OEM for their overall telecom equipments. Tejas Networks is certainly a bright spot but very small portfolio with no niche product to offer for current gen telco requirements. As Tata taken over, hope they will invest.

Bruv, Tejas already supplies to Airtel and BSNL. They're well established in the industry.
I don't know if I'm remembering this right, but reliance has partnered with sanmina, I think. And then there is this.

I don't mean to take away from your point that there is not enough R&D happening in most sectors. But telecom is not one of those sectors.
