lateral thrusters creates a lateral force in any direction which allows the missile to get closer to its target without high acceleration manoeuvres ( manuver the missile while it remains pointed at the target ) and within the lowest possible reaction time.Look at the lateral thruster. You would have a fair idea.
Generally seen in atgms because of the necessity of the above reasons.
But also preferred solution for the best high altitude maneuverability of missiles ie SAMs. Air is thin at high altitudes , not enough deflection generated from the moving fins etc so lateral thrusters can provide the required deflection without fail and latency
Noted the thrusters earlier , yet no idea
