Archer ng is male will fly at medium altitude with piston engine at about 20-25k altitude while other is a hale will fly at much higher altitude with a turbofan/turboprop engine with higher endurance (will be used to cover more ground/especially sea )

Archer NG become easy target for all land based air defense missiles, but to destroy HALE, one need missiles which can reach high altitude. HALE carry heavy sensors, which helps to search more areas at once with high resolutions, at longer rangers. HALE is good for border & sea surveillance and MALE good for non hostile or areas lacks AD.

Birth of Tapas is from Rustom-H program. It was designed from day 1 as a surveillance drone. Archer NG on other hand has born out of Archer (Rustom-1) and has been envisaged as an attack drone.

Coming to Tapas program, it is our requirement. So it would come. But problem with the overall program is, DRDO did bite more then it could chew with it. They are the one who has given the specs to user as a drone which would be able to fly at 30k feet and with an endurance of ~28 hours. But during project realization, it came to light that it can't be achieved as of now. So in its current form, we can't expect the orders to be too massive.

The US Congress has cleared the GE jet engine deal with India, paving the way for the implementation of the firm’s agreement with HAL that includes technology transfer & production of jet engines in India for LCA Mk-2. Deal worth $1 billion.

As per the process, the US state department notified the House and Senate foreign relations committee on July 28 after the deal was signed. Since there were no objections in the 10 days post notification, the administration can go ahead with the next steps.
