Added @binayak95 reply here so you can read
IN studied the Udav 1Ms when the first Talwar tranche was offered to us. The Russians were, as always, asking for exorbitant money for integrating the fire control mechanism and transferring the know how for the new warheads.

IN demurred, believing that the entire thing can be made locally since we already had established localized manufacturing and testing of the HEAT ASW Rb60 rockets.

It took longer than expected, but it has happened. And we dont use laser based air burst, rather timed air burst rounds. simpler, cheaper and effective, since we are not targeting aerial targets with them

Not sure where to post this but.
Sometimes the cost weaponry really baffles me. Even simple drones and missiles cost multiple times the sum of their components. Just look at what goes into a guided subsonic missile.A 20000 rs mobile phones can detect faces, while the rocket propellant and steel casing (heck go for a composite casing, it will not cost more than a lakh)
The russians export their kornet for an equivalent of 21 Lakh rupees per missile ( and that is among the cheapest of missiles) and it does not even have a seeker. Its like weapon manufacturers worldwide are trolling militaries and governments.
Defence is expensive as they go through much more testing and can survive much harsher environment then their civil counterpart.

and when you are making deals most people think it’s the unit cost of the equipment but 99% of the time, there is training and support equipment which is required just as an example kornet might need support equipment to check and test the missile every few months it’s in the storage

35 % is normal margin as any other corporate

And you really think that the round they'll develop after all these EOI and RFI would be a huge improvement over the ones we used to have!?

The jokes on you Mate
Read again.

They want development-cum-production partner.

Yes and ?...my question was drdo was saying the tank will be ready to be rolled out by mid this year if thats still true how come the order to build the thing from them only came recently
It depends on their production partner i.e L&T. IF design is there, and L&T has the capability, they could roll it out within 6 month time frame or even less then that. DRDO assumption is based on industrial capability of L&T.

I don't know, but there should have been a production partner right?
Now for God's sake don't say we're importing our APFSDS rounds from Britain
There was no production partner, but production agency. It was erstwhile OFB. OFB don't exist now. So it is MIL or AWEIL right now. But none of them are making 105 mm APFSDS round. Last time OshoCorp was selected for 125 mm rounds.

So DRDO right now is searching for Development cum Production partner for their 105 mm rounds.

I’d like this to be true just to watch the epic meltdowns from the West and particularly the Ukrainian flag waving leftists.

I do wonder how Russia could meet the requirements for this given the issues with meeting their own demands plus this would be another 5+ year drain on CAPEX for IAF
