This is the right approach for development getting a working product asap should be priority...but one must have path in mind for higher degree of indigenization

I don't know whether it's a right approach or not.but the competition part of it really seems stupid.with already 59 tanks in service DRDO would have massive advantage that would make the point of having the competition moot.and also if another tank is selected we will have to contend to the fact that they will be most likely vastly different.elbrit is offering one with 120mm tank gun this is in the end gonna create a mess

not necessarily. one size fits all doesn't work always.

highly unlikely they haven't done calculations to arrive at what they think is the optimal configuration for this prototype. they are engineers after all, not economists.

in this case we can assume they are prioritising the hull, and get the ball rolling on the prototype. rest of the components they can focus in later versions.

I think you misunderstood his question. He asked how we were supposed to achieve a protection level of 600mm RHA equivalent under the specified weight limit of just 25 metric tons!

Missiles are very expensive and of limited versatility and ammo. I would take the tank anyday.

Along with cheap loitering munitions, should be quite useful in the beautiful piece of barren wasteland, devoid of any kind of natural cover to speak of. So in my opinion, they both have their place.
