2 varients of barak 8?...where did u get that?....navy used to call b8 lrsam but now they have also started using mrsam like iaRight now the whole anti-air missile catalogue is an absolute mess.
(1) VSHORADs is coming up, you have very similar performing (2) QRSAM and (3) VLSRSAM. (4) Akash-NG is coming up and no one where I'll fit in between QRSAM and Barak-8. We operate two variants of Barak-8 namely (5) MRSAM and (6) LRSAM where's one's based on 35km Barak-8 and other's on 70km Barak-8ER. Other than that we have this confusion between other forces and Navy because one use the name MRSAM and other use the name LRSAM for the same missile. Then there's the upcoming project of (7) ERSAM {which some also call XR-SAM and some call Kusha} based on 150km Barak-ER. After this we have a 300km ranged missile going by the name (8) XRSAM {which again some also call ERSAM and some Kusha}. We have two ABMs; namely (9) Ashwin {also called AAD and AD-Phase 1-1} and (10) Prithvi {also called PAD and AD-Phase 1-2}. Without completely getting inducted into service these missiles are already getting updated (eventually replaced) by two new missiles; (11) AD-1 {AD-Phase 2-1} which is similar in performance to Aster-30 and (12) AD-2 {AD-Phase 2-2} which is similar to SM-3.
So in short there're some 12 missiles and I quit
We initially had the single pulse variant of Barak-8. Later we started using the dual pulse one2 varients of barak 8?...where did u get that?....navy used to call b8 lrsam but now they have also started using mrsam like ia

lets carry on:-Right now the whole anti-air missile catalogue is an absolute mess.

he was talking about BARAK 1....which will be replaced by VLSRAM. it used in old frigates, corvettes nd Vikramaditya carriers.Source?
Only Aster is anti aircraft & sm3 can't target aircraft but can target space craft. But won't there be some common elements like the booster etc ..
Besides sm3 and Aster are both used for anti aircraft as well. It's not like they keep em only for ballistic missiles .
...if SM 3 only target space craft, why its used in naval ships (destroyers) of USA, japan nd korea etc?? its definitely can target aircraft also.Only Aster is anti aircraft & sm3 can't target aircraft but can target space craft.
Nope...it has a very finicky KV (LEAP if I'm not wrong) instead of a HE warhead, so it can only target satellite and ballistic missile....if SM 3 only target space craft, why its used in naval ships (destroyers) of USA, japan nd korea etc?? its definitely can target aircraft also.
ok i got confused. SM 6 missiles (300 km range) used as anti aircraft nd anti ship roles...SM 3 (with 900+ km range) used as anti ballistic missile nd anti satellite missile. we also need SM 3 like (6 meter hight) anti ballistic missile. XRSAM nd LRSAM (150-300 km) can play SM 6 roles.Nope...it has a very finicky KV (LEAP if I'm not wrong) instead of a HE warhead, so it can only target satellite and ballistic missile.
The reason it's used on ships is that it's the Naval part of Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System, and it simply makes more sense if you can place your Anti-Ballistic Missiles closer to the boost phase of ballistic missile. Also it is very useful considering the only threat to all to Navy is China, who's trying very hard to hone it's anti-ship ballistic missile technology
It Can't. SM3 is basically useless against aircraft, cruise missile etc, and totally useless against endo atmosphere target thanks to aegis combat s/ms. Its a multi phase kill s/m capable of intercepting icbm, irbm, srbm in boost, mid course, end phase. Its mainly used for exo-atmospheric interception. When aegis combat s/ms sees an aircraft target it energise sm6....if SM 3 only target space craft, why its used in naval ships (destroyers) of USA, japan nd korea etc?? its definitely can target aircraft also.
With Russia sanctioned and western ADS capacity either too expensive or stuck in Ukraine, this could be a golden export opportunity for ADS systems to middle east, east Asian and African nations.I thought so too...he prob meant s400 like system not s400 itself but still only 5 ERADS?
Laughs in SiPER/Hisar-A/O/D/UWith Russia sanctioned and western ADS capacity either too expensive or stuck in Ukraine, this could be a golden export opportunity for ADS systems to middle east, east Asian and African nations.

By a US based organisation.
What is it
Are all the existing stupid acronyms and the ones in development interoperable!? Or are they/will they be isolated systems that need their own everything!?I thought so too...he prob meant s400 like system not s400 itself but still only 5 ERADS?
